What to do if your eyes become fester

What to do if your eyes become fester

Eyes are very important to us, they reflect the condition of our body, so we should pay attention to them. Patients usually complain of eye discomfort, swelling, local pain, and even frequent tears and pus discharge. This may be due to bacterial or viral infection of the eyes, causing inflammation. Once pus and bleeding occur, do not squeeze them with your hands to avoid recurrence of infection. It is best to go to the hospital for examination and treatment.

Chronic dacryocystitis

There are many patients who come to see a doctor because of frequent tears and pus discharge from the corners of their eyes. These patients generally do not have other discomfort symptoms such as local pain, skin redness and swelling, etc. The main manifestation is frequent tears and pus discharge from the corners of the eyes, especially when the junction of the corners of the eyes and the bridge of the nose is gently pressed with the fingertips, a large amount of yellow-white pus can be seen flowing out of the corners of the eyes. What is going on? It turns out that this patient suffers from a common eye disease medically called chronic dacryocystitis. There is a duct system between the human eye and the nasal cavity, called the lacrimal duct. From top to bottom, it is composed of the lacrimal puncta, lacrimal canaliculi, common lacrimal duct, lacrimal sac, and nasolacrimal duct. Its function is to drain tears. Under normal circumstances, an adult secretes 0.5 to 1.0 ml of tears every 16 hours. In addition to moistening the eyeballs and partially evaporating, the rest of these tears are drained into the nasal cavity through the lacrimal duct. If the nasolacrimal duct or the lower part of the lacrimal sac is blocked due to inflammation, trauma, foreign matter, etc., tear drainage will be blocked and a large amount of tears will accumulate in the lacrimal sac. The temperature and humidity are very suitable for bacterial growth and reproduction. Over time, it will cause bacteria to breed and suppurate, resulting in symptoms of pus discharge from the corners of the eyes.

Chronic dacryocystitis is easily ignored, and many such patients have not received treatment for a long time, which is actually very dangerous. Because the pus that fills the lacrimal sac contains a large number of bacteria, it is like a bacterial reservoir. The bacteria can be discharged at any time with the pus, contaminating the eyeball and possibly causing irreparable damage. If the black eyeball is injured, bacteria hidden in the pus will take advantage of the opportunity to enter the eye and cause keratitis or corneal ulcer. In mild cases, scars will remain on the cornea after healing, while in severe cases, corneal perforation will occur, leading to blindness.

Inflammation and redness of the eyes are generally caused by infection with bacteria, viruses, etc., and may also be related to insect bites during sleep. This is generally caused by failure to detect during sleep. So what should we do when our eyes become inflamed and swollen?

①Reduce touching

When your eyes become inflamed and swollen, try not to touch your eyes with your hands, because there are a lot of bacteria on our hands, and frequent touching with your hands will make the situation worse, so try to be patient.

②Drink less water before going to bed

Many people are accustomed to drinking a lot of water two hours before going to bed, which will easily make their eyes swollen the next day. Therefore, try to drink less water within two hours before going to bed.

③Increase activity

There is also a situation where the eyes become red and swollen due to lack of exercise and slower circulation in the body, so you can increase the amount of activity appropriately, which can also relieve the redness and swelling of the eyes.

④Control spicy food, tobacco and alcohol

When our eyes become inflamed and red, we should eat less spicy food and control smoking and drinking, which can relieve the redness and swelling of our eyes.

⑤ Eye drops

If the above methods are not able to relieve the condition, we can go to the hospital to get some anti-inflammatory eye drops, which can help us quickly relieve the condition.
