Symptoms after being bitten by ticks

Symptoms after being bitten by ticks

We all know that every summer, many insects come alive, especially those that love to bite people. They are the most annoying because after being bitten, people will not only feel itching and pain, but may even be infected with bacteria in the blood. Tick typhus is a kind of insect. It lives in the forest and especially likes to bite people. So what are the symptoms after being bitten by ticks? The following is a detailed introduction.

After the eggs of ticks hatch into larvae, they crawl onto the grass or crops. Once someone sits or touches them, the tick larvae will crawl onto the human body and bite them. After the pathogens enter the blood, symptoms of rickettsemia and toxemia appear, leading to a series of diseases in the body. Scrub typhus, also known as scrub typhus, is an acute infectious disease caused by tsutsugamushi Rickettsia (also known as oriental Rickettsia). The basic lesions are systemic small vessel vasculitis, perivascular inflammation and reticuloendothelial cell proliferation. Clinically, it is characterized by fever, eschar (or ulcer), lymphadenopathy, rash, and hepatosplenomegaly. This disease is a natural epidemic infectious disease with a higher incidence rate in coastal islands in the southeast and southwest regions of my country. Rodents are the main source of infection, which is transmitted to humans through tick bites.

Clinical manifestations

1. The onset is acute, with symptoms of acute infection such as chills or chills, high fever, body aches, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

2. Facial flushing, conjunctival congestion, eschar or ulcer, lymphadenopathy, rash, hepatosplenomegaly, etc.

3. In the second week of the disease, the condition often worsens, and the patient may have apathy, hearing loss, delirium, or even convulsions or coma, and may have signs of meningeal irritation or myocarditis, or pneumonia symptoms such as cough, chest pain, and shortness of breath.

Treatment principles

1. General treatment: Rest in bed, drink semi-fluid food, and give antipyretics and analgesics when necessary. Severe patients or those with complications of myocarditis or meningitis can be given adrenal cortical hormones.

2. Pathogen treatment: Chloramphenicol and tetracyclines are particularly effective for this disease.

Medication principles

1. For the early treatment of scrub typhus, chloramphenicol can be taken orally first. If there is drug resistance, doxycycline can be used instead.

2. For severe scrub typhus, intravenous chloramphenicol can be used, and dexamethasone can be added. If there is drug resistance, erythromycin or white mycin can be used instead. Fluoroquinolone drugs can also be tried.
