What color is ferrous sulfate solution?

Ferrous sulfate has no odor. It is in the form of particles or crystals. It will also weather in dry air and dissolve in water. Ferrous sulfate can be used not only as a reducing agent, but also as a chromatographic analysis reagent. Ferrous sulfate can be used to make iron salts or iron oxide pigments. It can also be used as a water purifier and preservative. So what color is the ferrous sulfate solution?

First, what color is ferrous sulfate solution? Ferrous sulfate solution is light green. Ferrous sulfate is prepared into a 10% solution before being added to water treatment or before adjusting the flower soil. Through experiments, Chimelong Technology found that the pH value of a 10% ferrous sulfate solution is 3.7. Since the oxidizability of ferrous ions is not stable, the pH value is between 3.55-3.8.

Second, once the ferrous sulfate solution is left in unsealed air, its pH value will drop from about 3.7 to between 2.0 and 3.0. The reason is that the divalent ferrous ions will slowly oxidize and reduce to trivalent ferric ions, and the trivalent ferric ions will slowly hydrolyze in the aqueous solution to form ferric hydroxide or ferric sulfate precipitates, causing the pH value to drop rapidly. It will also make the entire ferrous sulfate solution yellow.

Third, if necessary, maintain the pH value of ferrous sulfate at around 3.7. First of all, the ferrous sulfate needs to be sealed and stored, or, as time goes by, iron filings and sulfuric acid are added to the ferrous sulfate solution at regular intervals, and then alkali is added appropriately, which can appropriately increase its pH value while preventing the ferrous sulfate from oxidizing. If it is used to adjust the pH value of the soil, ferrous sulfate needs to be added to adjust the pH value of the soil to a weakly acidic soil between 4.5-5.4, which is most suitable for acid-loving flowers.

What color is ferrous sulfate solution? The concentrated solution of ferrous sulfate is light green, and the dilute solution is almost colorless. Generally, a light green color can only be seen when ferrous sulfate crystals are directly dissolved in water. It is usually difficult to see a light green color when ferrous sulfate is generated by reaction in a solution. What the author said below is that alkali or salt containing Fe2+ are all light green, which is wrong. The alkali containing Fe2+, Fe(OH)2, is white.
