What are the reasons for short thighs and long legs?

Many people find that their bodies are not well-proportioned, such as short thighs and long calves. This makes many people feel inferior and thinks that it affects their image and figure. This situation is generally closely related to genetics. Parents' lack of attention during the development stage, lack of nutritional intake, lack of proper exercise, or leg injuries in childhood are all factors that affect leg proportions. You should look more at your superior areas and you can play to your strengths and avoid your weaknesses through clothing matching.

High tibia point

(1) Tibiale (ti): The highest point on the medial edge of the medial condyle of the tibia. Ask the subject to bend his knee, find the depression between the femur and tibia on the inner side of the patellar ligament of the knee, and then touch the upper edge of the medial tibial condyle with your fingers, and it will be easy to determine this measuring point.

(2) Instrument used: Steel ruler with sliding feeler.

Measurement method: The subject stands, lifts his left leg, bends his knee and places his foot on a stool, with the entire sole of the foot against the stool surface and the calf perpendicular to the stool surface. The steel ruler is placed vertically on the bench surface on the inner side of the measuring leg. The measurer squats on the right side of the measuring leg and measures the vertical distance from the upper edge of the medial condyle of the left tibia (i.e. the medial joint of the knee joint) to the bench surface. The testing error shall not exceed 0.5 cm.

Note:

The upper edge point of the medial epicondyle of the tibia should be correct. The tester uses the outer side of the left thumb to touch from the inner side of the subject's patellar tendon along the knee joint to the inside to find the measurement point.

②The calf should be perpendicular to the ground and the steel ruler should be parallel to the tibia.

High medial ankle point

(1) Sphyrion (sph): The most downward point on the tip of the medial malleolus of the tibia [10].

The distal end of the medial (tibial) aspect of the ankle bone, that is, the most medial point in the anatomical position, not the most lateral point [11].

(2) The subject stands and the measurer squats. The measurer places a straight-foot ruler on the inner ankle of the subject's right foot and moves the ruler frame so that the end point of the active foot contacts the inner ankle point. The vertical distance from the inner ankle point to the ground is measured [1].

Tibial point height minus medial malleolus height

Calf length is the vertical distance from the tibialis flexure (ti) to the medial malleolus (sph) [3]; using an indirect measurement method, it is equal to the tibialis flexure height minus the medial malleolus height [1].

Roughly judge the proportion of thigh and leg

Observation method:

One is the squat test method. Stand steadily on the ground with both feet, raise both arms horizontally in front of you, and squat naturally. Move your sitting bones as close to your heel bones as possible, and your heels must not leave the ground. If you can squat steadily, it means your calves are long (see Figure A). If after squatting, the body's center of gravity falls backwards and the squat is unstable, it means that the thighs are long (Figure B).

[31]

The second method is to lie face down on the mat and use the heel to strike the top of the buttocks. Those who cannot hit the top of the buttocks have short calves.[32]

(Note: The length of the thigh is the length of the femur, which is the thickest and longest bone in the human body[4]. The calf has two long bones, the tibia and the fibula. Usually, the length of the calf refers to the length of the tibia[1]. The femur of Chinese people is 7-10cm longer than the tibia. Only when the length of the tibia is added to the height of the foot (i.e. the height of the tibia point) can the length of the femur approach or exceed that of the femur[5]. The average human (tibia length/femur length) × 100 is only more than 80

[6] .

In other words, when we say that athletes, models or certain people have “longer calves than thighs[29]”, in general, it is just that the (tibia length/femur length) × 100 index is higher than that of ordinary people, and it does not mean that their tibia is longer than their femur. )
