What causes neuralgia?

If you want to effectively treat and solve neuralgia, you should pay attention to understanding the causes of it. The causes of neuralgia are different, and the treatment methods and symptoms are also different. The causes of trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia or intercostal neuralgia are all different.

1. Trigeminal neuralgia: common in inflammatory infiltration, atherosclerotic compression, cerebellopontine angle tumors, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, trigeminal ganglion tumors, chordoma, multiple sclerosis, etc.

2. Sphenopalatine ganglion pain, pterygoid neuralgia, and geniculate ganglion pain: seen in sinusitis, sphenoid sinusitis, ethmoid sinusitis, nasal structure deformation, nasal septum deviation due to mechanical compression of the middle turbinate, skull base fracture, metastatic cancer, herpes zoster virus infection, etc.

3. Occipital neuralgia: common in neuritis, upper respiratory tract infection, influenza, malaria, rheumatism, diabetes, thyroid disease, alcohol, lead poisoning, occipital and neck trauma, cervical spondylosis, rheumatoid spondylitis or metastatic cancer, basilar indentation, foramen magnum stenosis, atlanto-occipital fusion, atlantoaxial dislocation, incomplete septation of upper cervical vertebrae, cerebellar tonsillar herniation, intraspinal tumors, foramen magnum tumors, adhesive spinal meningitis, syringomyelia, suboccipital joint ligament injury, anterior and posterior arch fractures of the atlas, atlantoaxial subluxation, cervical muscle injury, etc.

4. Intercostal neuralgia: common in infectious and toxic radiculitis, pleurisy, chronic pneumonia, aortic aneurysm, mitral valve stenosis, thoracic organ lesions, thoracic tuberculosis, tumors, ankylosing spondylitis, spinal cord tumors, spinal cord inflammation and other spinal lesions, rib tumors, rib fractures, bone calluses, and herpes zoster.

5. Cervical, shoulder and brachial neuralgia, and brachial plexus neuritis: common in cervical spondylosis, neck swellings, tumors, herpes zoster, influenza, typhoid fever, malaria and other infections, colds, and vaccinations with heterologous serum vaccines.

6. Ulnar neuralgia, median neuralgia and lateral femoral cutaneous neuralgia are seen in neuritis, trauma, local inflammation and compressive lesions.
