What are the possible causes of mid-abdominal pain?

Many people's abdominal pain is not localized, but they feel pain in the middle of the abdomen. Most people are at a loss in this situation and don't know what the problem is. As a result, they make random judgments, which leads to misdiagnosis of their condition. Abdominal pain in the middle part may be related to chronic enteritis, especially people who often suffer from diarrhea or loose stools are most likely to experience this pain.

Viewing chronic enteritis from the perspective of TCM syndrome differentiation:

(I) Differentiate the severity of the disease: Chronic diarrhea develops slowly, lasts for a long time, and often recurs due to improper diet and excessive fatigue. It is often caused by spleen deficiency. Or if the disease lasts for a long time and affects the kidneys, there will be diarrhea at dawn and cold waist and knees. This is due to the decline of the fire in the gate of life. The spleen and kidneys are affected at the same time, so they should be treated together.

(2) Identify the severity of the disease: Generally, diarrhea is a mild disease with a good prognosis if the spleen and stomach are not damaged and the diet is normal. If a person cannot eat due to diarrhoea, becomes emaciated, and has excessive diarrhoea; or if he has long-term diarrhoea and cannot control it, resulting in loss of body fluids, he may suffer from loss of yin or yang, which are usually serious symptoms. “If a patient with diarrhea cannot eat and has a rapid pulse, he will die.” It can be seen that whether one can eat or not is of great significance in weighing the severity of diarrhea.

(III) Differentiate between cold and deficiency: If the disease lasts for a long time, the abdominal pain is not severe, the abdominal pain is relieved by pressing, the urination is frequent, and there is no thirst, it is mostly a deficiency syndrome. The stool is clear and watery, the abdominal pain prefers warmth, is afraid of cold and bloating, is stubborn and indigestible, and the hands and feet are cold, which are mostly cold symptoms.

(IV) The key points of TCM syndrome differentiation of chronic enteritis include differentiation of concurrent symptoms: diarrhea accompanied by chills, spontaneous sweating, fever, headache, and floating pulse is due to wind syndrome; diarrhea occurring in the hot summer season with symptoms of fever, thirst, heaviness of the head, spontaneous sweating, and a weak and rapid pulse is due to heat syndrome; diarrhea accompanied by abdominal distension and belching with a sour and smelly smell is due to food poisoning.
