What is desensitization treatment for allergic rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is a common type of rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis is generally caused by contact with allergens. Many people are not aware of the desensitization treatment of allergic rhinitis. Desensitization therapy is a type of immunotherapy in clinical practice. Desensitization therapy must be used under the premise of medication.

1. Simply put, "desensitization" therapy is a form of immunotherapy. Low-titer allergens are used to stimulate the human body to produce antibodies, and then the titer of allergens is continuously increased to gradually reach a high saturation of antigen-antibody binding. In this way, when external allergens enter the human body again, they will no longer produce allergic reactions, thus achieving a non-allergic state for the allergic constitution. This is the basic principle of "sublingual" or "intramuscular injection" desensitization treatment.

2. The complexity and diversity of allergens. There are a large number of allergens in nature, and currently there are only about 30 types that can be detected, including food groups and inhalation groups. Currently, "desensitization" treatment is mainly effective for patients who are allergic to mites alone.

3. "Desensitization" treatment cannot completely replace drugs. In the first 50 weeks, the dosage of nasal spray hormones, antihistamines, and anti-leukotriene drugs cannot be reduced. In the second year, on the premise that the treatment is effective, the dosage of drug treatment can be reduced to 1/2. After the third year, maintenance medication is still needed. Therefore, "desensitization" treatment must be considered under the premise of drug treatment. In the "Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis", "desensitization" treatment is not the first-line medication. Simple "desensitization" treatment is a common phenomenon that is extremely irregular in the current treatment of allergic rhinitis.
