Eardrum perforation cannot be said to be serious or not serious clinically. It has a certain impact on the patient's hearing. Generally, eardrum perforation can be repaired through surgery. Many people are concerned about whether the eardrum perforation repair surgery will be painful. Don't worry, as anesthesia will be administered. 1. There are two causes of ruptured eardrums, one is caused by trauma, and the other is caused by infection, such as suppurative otitis media, and of course, post-traumatic infection. Generally, traumatic perforations can heal on their own in about one to two weeks as long as there is no infection. Perforations caused by infection can only be repaired after the infection is controlled or the inflammation is in a quiescent period. Tympanoplasty requires anesthesia before surgery, so it will not be very painful. After a traumatic tympanic membrane perforation, the main thing is to prevent infection, including avoiding water from entering the ear canal, and even prohibiting the use of any ear drops to avoid bringing bacteria from the external ear canal into the middle ear cavity, and prohibiting blowing the nose to prevent colds. If the infection has already occurred, antibiotics should be used for treatment, and repair should be carried out in time after the inflammation is controlled. 2. There are two methods of repairing the eardrum: surgery and cauterization. The surgical method is to make an incision inside or behind the ear, and take the autologous tissue and implant it in the eardrum. This method is suitable for patients with large perforation of the eardrum or ossicular defect, interruption or early cholesteatoma. The cauterization method is to apply a special medicine on the edge of the eardrum perforation to stimulate the growth of the eardrum. This method does not require surgery, is simple and easy, and can be done in the outpatient clinic. Each time takes 5 to 10 minutes and is basically painless. However, a follow-up visit and another cauterization are required every 7 to 10 days until the eardrum heals. 3. Note: After the repair, the ear will be plugged with cotton balls to prevent infection and wrapped with gauze. This will affect the sound by 20-30db. Generally, after the stitches are removed, the hearing will return to the original state, but if there is an abnormality in the ossicular chain, it is uncertain. |
