In the treatment of meibomian adenitis, attention must be paid to eliminating the cause. If it is diagnosed as allergic, then attention must be paid to identifying the allergens and isolating the allergens. At the same time, attention must also be paid to the correct use of some non-irritating ointments to protect the cornea. 1. Eliminate the cause: If it is caused by iatrogenic factors, the eye drops currently being used should be changed or stopped immediately. If diagnosed with allergy, ways should be found to remove the allergens or isolate them. If the patient is affected by conjunctivitis, dacryocystitis or other skin diseases, the primary disease should be treated at the same time. In addition, to prevent self-inflicted trauma, an eye mask should be worn. 2. When the owner tells you that it is caused by chemical corrosion, especially when acid or alkali splashes in, you should immediately use Ringer's solution or tap water or other readily available liquids to quickly rinse the animal for 5 to 10 minutes. Do not lose the opportunity to rescue the animal because of the choice of washing solution. For information on neutralization and other treatments, please refer to the "Corneal Ulcer" section. 3. Gently wipe away the secretions with Ringer's solution or olive oil, and pluck the hair around the palpebral fissure as needed. When applying ointment to the eyelid skin, first use a non-irritating eye ointment to apply to the eye before applying it to protect the cornea. 4. When bacterial infection is suspected, first evert the eyelids to confirm whether the meibomian glands are inflamed. If so, use warm compresses and gentle massage to expel the contents. If there are conjunctival stones and styes (chronic granulomatous inflammation of the meibomian glands), the contents should be scraped out. After completing the above treatments, apply hot compresses and broad-spectrum antibiotics (kanamycin ointment) to the eyelid skin 3 to 4 times a day, or apply a mixture of antibiotics and corticosteroids. In severe cases, antibiotics can be given systemically, which will have a very good therapeutic effect. At this time, drugs that do not antagonize local antibiotics should be selected. 5. When fungal or parasitic infection is suspected, treat according to the treatment methods for dermatophytosis, feline scabies and demodicosis. 6. If mycobacteria or acid-fast bacteria are detected during the biopsy, from a public health perspective, the sick cat is no longer a target for treatment and should be captured and killed. |
