What is turbid urine? 8 reasons to help you understand

Our bodies undergo metabolism every day to help us excrete harmful substances from the body. Some of the metabolism needs to be excreted through urine, so many people sometimes find that their urine is very turbid. In fact, this means that a lot of harmful substances in the body have been excreted. There is no need to worry, but if the color is abnormal for a long time, you should pay attention. Now I will share with you what turbid urine is.

1. Dehydration. One of the most common reasons for cloudy urine is dehydration. If water intake is less than normal, urine appears dark and concentrated. During the summer months, it is not uncommon for urine to have a cloudy appearance if you don't drink enough water. Symptoms disappear easily with proper intake of water. However, if the condition persists, it is wise to consult a GP.

2. Infection. Urinary tract infection may be another cause of cloudy urine. Cloudy urine White blood cells enter the urine to drive away infection. Urinary tract infections are often accompanied by abdominal discomfort, fever, nausea, burning sensation during urination, and painful urination. If cloudy urine persists for a long time, do not delay consulting your doctor.

3. Drug side effects, those who are taking high doses of vitamin C, vitamin B complex, may also experience cloudy urine. These vitamins are water-soluble and are excreted from the body through urine. Certain other medications can also temporarily make urine cloudy. However, urine shows normal as long as you stop taking the medicine. Many people who drink large amounts of milk every day may also have cloudy urine due to the presence of phosphates in the urine.

4. Vaginal/prostate infection. Women with vaginal infection and cervical cancer can experience cloudy urine. White blood cells may appear in urine from the vagina and the urine may turn cloudy. In men, a creeping infection can cause the urine to appear cloudy.

5. Kidney stones. Patients with kidney stones may experience cloudy urine. However, these patients may also experience abdominal pain, nausea, and back and groin pain.

6. Kidney infection, patients who suffer from proteinuria, a condition in the kidneys where protein appears in the urine may complain of cloudy urine. Doctors usually recommend a urinalysis, which is a test of the urine to check for the presence of protein.

7. Food and alcohol. Consuming too much alcohol can make your urine turn cloudy. The amount of cloudiness in urine also depends on the types of food consumed. While raw vegetables and fruits make urine clear, people who consume more meat and spicy foods tend to have cloudy urine.

8. Other common causes of cloudy urine include schistosomiasis; acute pyelonephritis; acute prostatitis; chemical poisoning with phenol; gonorrhea; glomerulonephritis; nephritis; and Torulopsis.
