What to do if you have viral diarrhea? How to cure it?

Diarrhea is a symptom that we often experience in daily life. If the symptoms are mild and only occur once or twice, there is generally no need to worry too much. But if it is viral diarrhea, then you must receive treatment, otherwise you will not be able to recover on your own. Delaying treatment will only make the condition worse. So, what should you do about viral diarrhea?

1. Antiviral treatment

1. Ribavirin (virazole): The injection dosage is 10-15 mg/(kg body weight/day), divided into two intramuscular injections or intravenous drips; ribavirin tablets can also be taken orally, 10 mg for those under 1 year old and 20 mg for those over 1 year old, 3 times a day. Ribavirin is a broad-spectrum antiviral drug that is widely used in clinical practice, but its efficacy is still not very certain. 2. Dipyridamole (Persantin) tablets: The dosage is 3-5 mg/(kg body weight/day), taken orally in 3 divided doses.

3. Cimetidine: The dosage is 15-20 mg/(kg body weight/day), administered by intravenous drip in divided doses or orally. In clinical applications, attention should be paid to drug side effects and interactions with other drugs.

4. Interferon: It has been reported that the use of low-dose interferon to treat rotavirus enteritis, 50,000 units injected intramuscularly once a day for 7 consecutive days, had a total effective rate of 85.8%, which was significantly higher than the control group (57.1%), and the immune function was significantly improved after treatment.

5. Secretory immunoglobulin: It has been reported that secretory immunoglobulin A oral solution can be used to treat rotavirus enteritis in infants and young children. The dosage is 3-5 mg/(kg body weight/day), taken orally in 3-4 times, and one course of treatment is 3-5 days. The number of days for diarrhea relief in the treatment group is significantly shortened. Some people have used anti-rotavirus immune bovine colostrum to treat rotavirus enteritis in infants and young children, and achieved significant results. 60 ml of anti-rotavirus immune bovine colostrum, 6 ml each time, orally 3 times a day, 3 days as a course of treatment, the total effective rate of antidiarrhea is 91%. 6. Anti-group A rotavirus chicken egg yolk immunoglobulin: Chen Liuying et al. used anti-group A rotavirus chicken egg yolk immunoglobulin to treat 104 children with positive group A rotavirus antigen. The total effective rate was 87.5%, and the average diarrhea-stopping days was 2.98±1.41 days, which was significantly different from the light control group.

(ii) Gastrointestinal mucosal protective agents

Commonly used are double octahedral montmorillonite powder, such as Kentling and montmorillonite (Smecta), which are effective drugs recommended by experts for the treatment of pediatric enteritis. Dosage: For children under 1 year old, take 1 pack per day; for children 1 to 2 years old, take 1 to 2 packs per day; for children 2 to 3 years old, take 2 to 3 packs per day. Take orally with 50 ml of warm water in 3 doses.

(III) Microecological preparations

Preparations with better therapeutic effects include Bifidobacterium, Livzon Enterol, and Golden Bifidobacterium, which are bifidobacterium preparations.

4. Other supportive and symptomatic treatments

For malnourished children, it is advisable to supplement the trace elements zinc and iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B_1, vitamin B_(12), folic acid, etc.; scopolamine, promethazine, etc. can also be used symptomatically.

5. Dietary adjustment and use of antibiotics

Now it is generally recommended to continue breastfeeding or continue the usual diet, such as porridge, noodles, vegetables, minced meat, fish, etc., and some fresh vegetables and fruits can be given to supplement potassium. Some people have also observed that a lactose-free diet is beneficial to the recovery of diarrhea in infants and young children.
