What does core antibody positive mean

What does core antibody positive mean

Generally speaking, a positive core antibody test result is usually included in the test report. If the hepatitis B core antibody is positive, it means that the person's body is infected with the hepatitis B virus. A positive core antibody test cannot be analyzed alone, otherwise the patient's specific physical condition cannot be determined.

Positive meaning

A positive hepatitis B core antibody test means that you have been infected with the hepatitis B virus. This is a permanent symbol that will exist once you are infected with the hepatitis B virus. However, in actual testing, since the core antibody levels in the body are different at different times, or when tested in different hospitals, there are errors between instruments and reagents, and sometimes the test result is negative. In medical theory, core antibodies are markers of antibodies.

A positive hepatitis B core antibody is clinically significant only when analyzed together with surface antigen and E antigen. A positive core antibody alone only means that the person has been infected with HBV but has no special clinical symptoms. Clinically, both big triple positive and small triple positive do not necessarily have symptoms. It mainly depends on liver function. Clinical symptoms such as jaundice and indigestion may only appear if there is a problem with liver function.

There are two meanings of positive hepatitis B core antibody

One is that the hepatitis B core antibody is positive, but the IgM antibody level is low, which means that the person has been infected with the hepatitis B virus before but has now recovered and can live a normal life.

The other is that the hepatitis B core antibody is positive and the level of IgM antibody is also relatively high, indicating that the hepatitis B virus exists in the body and is replicating and contagious. In this case, antiviral treatment is required.

However, if the hepatitis B core antibody is analyzed alone, it will generally not have much significance. It must be analyzed together with several other items. If the surface antigen, e antigen and core antibody are positive at the same time, this indicates that there is hepatitis B big three; if the surface antigen, e antibody and core antibody are positive at the same time, this indicates that there is hepatitis B small three.
