Symptoms of cervical spinal stenosis, how to determine the disease

The most common symptom for patients with cervical spinal stenosis is pain. This disease can also cause a series of functional disorders, such as numbness of the limbs, skin allergies, etc. If the condition is serious, it can also cause incontinence in patients.

First: The concept of cervical spinal stenosis, as the name suggests, is a decrease in the diameter of the cervical spinal canal in all directions , or a decrease in volume. Cervical spinal stenosis can reduce the effective space and blood supply to the spinal cord and nerves, causing functional impairment. Therefore, cervical spinal stenosis is a general term for various diseases that cause spinal stenosis and spinal cord compression, not a single specific disease.

Second: Cervical spinal stenosis can compress the cervical spinal cord , causing symptoms such as numbness of the limbs, decreased strength of the limbs, pain, and skin allergies. It can also affect urination and defecation, and may cause incontinence and difficulty in defecation. There may also be a feeling of tightness in the neck, neck pain and discomfort, and limited movement.

Third: Cervical spinal stenosis usually presents numbness and tingling in the limbs as the first symptoms, which often start from the arms and gradually worsen. The hands' grip strength gradually decreases, making it difficult to hold objects, and there is a feeling of being restrained in the chest. The lower limbs feel like walking on cotton piles, and the patient becomes unstable when standing and walking, has a heavy gait, and has difficulty starting. In severe cases, lower limb spasms, paralysis, constipation, and urinary incontinence may occur.

Precautions

For patients, cervical spinal stenosis is particularly harmful, and the early symptoms are very obvious. If the patient fails to control the disease as soon as possible, it may be life-threatening when the disease becomes particularly serious. Therefore, early detection and early treatment are very beneficial for controlling the disease.
