What is abdominal breathing?

We have to breathe every day. If we can’t breathe or can’t breathe normally, our lives will be in danger. So keeping your breathing healthy is a very important thing. Breathing is an innate function that will decline with age or due to diseases, bad living habits, etc. So pay attention to breathing exercises. So what is abdominal breathing? Let us introduce it below.

People use abdominal breathing when they are born, but as they grow older, due to time and personality, they gradually switch to chest breathing.

Normally, the air inhaled by the human body can only reach the lungs. This is because the micropores of the diaphragm are blocked, affecting the circulation of air. The biggest disadvantage of this chest breathing is that it cannot inhale large amounts of fresh air.

When people perform abdominal breathing, the abdominal muscles tense and relax alternately, causing the capillaries in the local muscles to contract and dilate alternately, thereby accelerating blood circulation and expanding oxygen supply. It is also beneficial to the elimination of metabolic products from the body, and plays a regulating and promoting role in organs and tissues throughout the body. In addition, the contraction and relaxation of the abdominal muscles is also a good massage, which can promote stomach and abdominal movement and change digestive function. At the same time, the abdominal muscles are the driving muscles for defecation, so regular abdominal breathing exercises are also helpful in preventing habitual constipation.

Can greatly improve lung function

The biggest feature of abdominal breathing is that it can increase the range of motion of the diaphragm, and the movement of the diaphragm directly affects the ventilation volume of the lungs. Studies have shown that for every centimeter the diaphragm descends, lung ventilation volume can increase by 250 to 300 ml. If you persist in abdominal breathing for half a year, the range of motion of the diaphragm can increase by four centimeters. This is very beneficial for improving lung function and is one of the important rehabilitation methods for senile emphysema and other pulmonary ventilation disorders.

The preparations before abdominal breathing exercises are: quit drinking, have bowel movements, and loosen your belt. Choose a place with fresh air and stand or lie down in any posture.

The basics of abdominal breathing

The basic principles are: focus your mind, relax your shoulders, exhale first and then inhale, inhale in and exhale deflate.

Specific method: Treat your abdomen as a ball, inhale through your nose to make your abdomen bulge, pause for one or two seconds, and then exhale through your mouth until the abdominal wall sinks. About five or six times per minute is enough. Generally twice a day, in cities you can choose between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., each time lasting about 10 minutes.

The key to abdominal breathing is: whether you are inhaling or exhaling, you should try to reach the "limit" amount, that is, inhale until you can't inhale anymore, and exhale until you can't exhale anymore; similarly, the abdomen should also contract and expand to the extreme accordingly, it would be better if each breath goes directly to the lower dantian.

Practicing abdominal breathing is generally used for health care. Since the amount of oxygen inhaled is two to three times higher than normal, it can also be used to treat diseases of various parts of the human body. For example, if you have a headache, you can take a full breath and suddenly lift your heels off the ground, forcing the air to rush directly to your head, and then exhale. Of course, different rehabilitation treatments should be combined with medication and should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor.

The above introduction is the best answer to the question of what abdominal breathing is. Abdominal breathing is an exercise that is very helpful to the body. Our bodies need constant attention to exercise to keep some of their functions in normal condition. If you cannot maintain this condition well, your health will be affected.
