Is sodium bicarbonate thermally stable?

Is sodium bicarbonate thermally stable?

Sodium bicarbonate is what we commonly call baking soda. It is a white crystal with low solubility in water. Some people believe that sodium bicarbonate is toxic. It is an industrial chemical. Sodium bicarbonate can be decomposed into sodium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water. Baking soda can also be used in food. Next, we will take an in-depth look at the thermal stability of sodium bicarbonate.

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is commonly known as "baking soda", "baking powder" and "heavy soda". It is a white, fine crystal whose solubility in water is lower than that of sodium carbonate. It is an industrial chemical and may be toxic. The solid begins to gradually decompose at above 50°C to produce sodium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water, and completely decomposes at 440°C. Sodium bicarbonate is an acid salt formed by the neutralization of a strong base and a weak acid, and it exhibits weak alkalinity when dissolved in water. This property allows it to be used as a leavening agent in food preparation.

Sodium bicarbonate will leave residual sodium carbonate after reaction. Using too much will make the finished product have an alkaline taste. Decomposes easily when heated. Decomposes slowly in moist air. The reaction starts to produce CO? at about 50℃, and it is completely converted into sodium carbonate at 100℃. It decomposes rapidly in weak acids, and its aqueous solution begins to decompose into carbon dioxide and sodium carbonate at 20°C, and is completely decomposed at the boiling point. It is soluble in 10 parts of water at 25°C, soluble in 12 parts of water at about 18°C, and insoluble in ethanol.

The undisturbed solution made of cold water shows only a slight alkaline reaction to phenolphthalein test paper. Its alkalinity increases when left alone or at a higher temperature. 25℃ freshly prepared 0.1mol/L water solution

The liquid pH is 8.3. Low toxicity, median lethal dose (rat, oral) 4420 mg/kg. Sodium bicarbonate is white crystals or opaque monoclinic fine crystals.

The above is the relevant content about sodium bicarbonate. When transporting sodium bicarbonate, be sure to prevent the bag from breaking and store it in a dry and ventilated warehouse. Do not transport it together with toxic substances because it is easily contaminated and affected by moisture. Sodium bicarbonate can also be used to treat stomach acid problems and can also be used in film production. It has many uses.
