How to deal with leg cramps?

In life, many people say that they sometimes get cramps while sitting, sometimes even while sleeping, and sometimes while traveling. At that moment they feel extremely painful and cannot move, and they wake up in their sleep. In severe cases, they will still feel pain in the cramped area of their legs for several days. What should you do at the moment of cramping? Now let me tell you about it.

Taking the following different countermeasures according to different causes can quickly relieve spasms and relieve pain. When cramps occur, just do the opposite, that is, bend your toes in the direction opposite to the force and persist for more than 1 to 2 minutes, and the effect will be achieved. Specifically, if the muscles in the back of the calf cramp, you can bend your foot so that the sole of your foot is lifted up, and at the same time try to straighten your knee joint; when the muscles in the front of the calf cramp, you can press down on the sole of your foot and bend your toes forcefully.

The best immediate response to a leg cramp is to gently stretch the tight muscle.

The first method is: once leg cramps occur, you can immediately grab the big toe on the cramping side with your hand, and then slowly pull the sole of the foot towards you, which can stretch the gastrocnemius muscle. Then slowly straighten your feet, and then stretch your legs forcefully, and your calf muscles will stop cramping; or you can use both hands to vigorously massage your calves, which will also be effective.

The second method is to lean forward against a wall with your heels on the ground. Simply standing and focusing your weight on the cramping leg can help, but be careful not to fall: having someone nearby to help is even better. Warmth (using an electric blanket or warm but not boiling water) or massaging the legs and feet can also help the muscles relax, but it is best to try stretching first.

First aid measures: If you notice a muscle cramp, immediately stop any current activity or exercise. Because the true mechanism that causes cramps is not yet known, most research results believe that muscle cramps are caused by a decrease in the nerve or neuromuscular stress threshold, which causes a sudden increase in the frequency of muscle nerve action, causing muscle tonic contraction. Therefore, if you get cramps during mountain climbing, you should immediately sit on the ground and keep still.

People with flat feet are more prone to cramps. Wearing properly fitting and comfortable shoes can reduce the likelihood of cramps. In life, you should pay attention to drinking plenty of water, especially after exercising, to replenish water to avoid dehydration, but not too much. If you always have cramps, you should pay attention to it. It is best to go to the hospital for a check-up to see if there are any other problems with your body.
