Frequent tinnitus can alert you to six diseases

Tinnitus, dizziness, stars in the eyes...these symptoms are not unfamiliar to people. Mr. Chen, 67 years old this year, has had tinnitus symptoms for five years. Recently, he feels that the sound of tinnitus is getting louder and louder. He wonders: Is it because of my old age?

Generally speaking, there are several reasons for tinnitus in the elderly: mental stress and fatigue; disordered pace of life; noise pollution in the living environment; smoking and drinking; history of cardiovascular disease, taking ototoxic drugs, etc.

Tinnitus may be a sign of systemic disease

Anyone may experience symptoms of tinnitus in daily life. If it occurs occasionally, there is no need to worry too much, but if it occurs frequently, you should be alert. Constant tinnitus may be a manifestation of ear and certain systemic diseases.

1. Ear diseases

Such as otitis media, otosclerosis, foreign body in the external auditory canal, deafness, etc. Among middle ear diseases, a small number of patients with chronic otitis media may have tinnitus, but the degree is relatively mild. The tinnitus caused by otosclerosis is more obvious. It starts with intermittent low pitch and gradually worsens to become continuous tinnitus. Tinnitus caused by inner ear diseases is often high-pitched and intermittent or continuous. Tinnitus is also a precursor to deafness. About 70% of patients with sudden deafness experience tinnitus before or after deafness.

2. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

Tinnitus caused by hypertension is usually bilateral. Arteriosclerosis, heart valve disease, etc. can also cause pulsatile tinnitus.

3. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Among patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, about half of them experience tinnitus. The Eustachian tube connecting the human nasopharynx and the middle ear cavity can regulate the air pressure in the middle ear cavity and maintain the balance of pressure inside and outside the eardrum. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma often occurs near the opening of the Eustachian tube in the nasopharynx. The tumor compresses the opening of the Eustachian tube, causing blockage and thus causing tinnitus.

4. Liver and kidney diseases

Some office workers have just started working and found that they have symptoms of tinnitus and deafness. After going to the hospital for a check-up, I was told that my liver and kidneys were not in good condition. Many people in the workplace have irregular daily routines, living and eating habits, which can easily damage the liver and kidneys. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the liver opens up to the eyes, and insufficient liver yin will cause dry eyes. The internal heat disturbs the body and the body fluids cannot moisten the body, so the throat and mouth become dry. Deficiency of liver and kidney yin and hyperactivity of heart fire can lead to tinnitus and deafness.

5. Neurasthenia

Neurasthenia patients are overly nervous, which causes the central nervous system in the ear to enter an excited state. They can hear sounds in their ears that do not exist in the outside world, which indirectly causes tinnitus.

6. Cervical spondylosis

When the internal and external balance of the spine is disrupted, the anatomical position of the cervical spine changes, thereby stimulating or compressing the cervical sympathetic nerves, disturbing the physiological function of the inner ear and causing tinnitus. Cervical spondylosis can cause tinnitus on the side where the blood vessels are compressed.

If you always have symptoms of tinnitus, you should pay attention to it, go to the hospital in time, find out the cause, so as not to delay the treatment.
