Festering in fingernails

Festering in fingernails

Even people who intend to grow their fingernails should trim their fingernails regularly, because regular trimming of fingernails can not only keep the fingernails clean and healthy but also prevent the occurrence of paronychia. And when there is a little pain on the edge of the fingernail, you should seek medical treatment immediately, otherwise the pain may be further aggravated and cause suppuration. And when you find that you have suppuration inside your fingernails, what disease is it and what is the treatment?

1. Trim your nails

Patients with paronychia whose nails have grown into the flesh and have become purulent can cut off the nail covering the pus cavity before seeking medical treatment to avoid further pus discharge and further affecting the nail. Note: Nail clippers should be disinfected with alcohol before use. When trimming nails, they should be trimmed gently and do not deliberately pry open the nails, as this can cause severe pain.

2. Disinfection and medication

After the patient cuts off the pus-filled nail, the wound should be cleaned in time and disinfected with iodine tincture using a cotton swab. Analgesics can be used appropriately before changing the dressing to relieve pain. When changing the dressing on the wound, be gentle to avoid aggravating the pain. When the dressing is tightly attached to the wound, it can be rinsed with sterile saline first to make the dressing thoroughly soaked before changing the dressing.

3. Chinese medicine patch

Chinese medicine plaster is a kind of conservative treatment method. Its function is to reduce swelling, relieve pain and detoxify. It is suitable for patients with early paronychia. Most hospitals apply ichthyol ointment or Sanhuang powder to the affected area.

4. Drainage if necessary

If the patient has severe pus discharge, he or she should seek medical attention promptly and adopt the treatment method of incision and drainage. Pay attention to keeping the drainage of the pus cavity unobstructed at all times and observe the exudation of the wound; keep the dressing clean and dry, replace the soaked dressing in time, and pay attention to the changes in the color, properties and amount of the drainage; use antibiotics promptly and reasonably according to the doctor's orders.
