Nosebleed due to dry weather

Most of our friends will get angry and have nosebleeds in dry weather, which makes many friends worried and distressed. So what is the reason for nosebleeds in dry weather? Why does this phenomenon occur? I believe that many patients and friends want to know about this issue. Let us take a look at the introduction of the article below.

What is the reason for nosebleeds in dry weather? Traditional Chinese medicine believes that if there is a symptom in the nose, it is generally closely related to abnormalities in the lungs or liver. Because when people's qi and blood rise, especially when the lung qi is hotter, people will experience nosebleeds.

When the lung qi is overheated, blood or bleeding may occur in the fundus of the eyes. The causes of getting angry and nosebleed are the same, both are the result of the upward flow of Qi and blood, but getting angry is not the cause of nosebleed. When the nasal cavity is too dry, the capillaries inside will rupture and cause bleeding.

From a clinical perspective, 90% of nosebleeds are vascular bleeding caused by blood vessel rupture. In this regard, patients do not need to be too nervous. In most cases, they can handle it themselves and stop the bleeding in time.

When your nose is bleeding, you can plug your nose with a tampon and tilt your head back to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. At the same time, you can also apply a cool towel to your forehead or nose to lower the temperature of your head and nose to relieve bleeding symptoms. If there is excessive bleeding in the nasal cavity and it is difficult to stop, you should see a doctor immediately. Nosebleeds in young people are also related to fatigue, exercise, etc. Especially young people who love sports often have their noses suddenly bleed while exercising. Generally speaking, patients can stop bleeding on their own.

However, if you have a sudden nosebleed without any warning, it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up to rule out lesions such as nasal tumors as soon as possible. Generally speaking, nasal bleeding due to ruptured blood vessels does not require special treatment. Professor Yang Li said that since nose bleeding is related to lung heat, people should try their best to avoid situations that may cause lung heat in their diet and lifestyle. Drink less alcohol, eat less spicy food, and eat less food that may generate heat. On the contrary, you can eat more foods that clear away heat and reduce fire, such as bitter melon, mung bean soup, watermelon, cold drinks, etc. Take 3 grams of winter mulberry leaves, add Imperata root and Ophiopogon japonicus, and then add some licorice, and use them to make tea, which can achieve the purpose of clearing heat and reducing fire.

Nosebleed, medically known as "epistaxis", is mostly caused by "lung dryness and blood heat", which leads to dryness of the nasal cavity, insufficient toughness of capillaries and rupture. If not treated promptly and the disease progresses over time, it will have serious consequences, such as nasal mucosal atrophy, anemia, memory loss, poor vision, decreased immunity, and even ischemic shock, which is life-threatening. Children are lively and active and often injure their noses accidentally, causing nosebleeds. In addition, they may also put foreign objects into their nostrils out of curiosity, causing damage to the nasal mucosa. The above situation may occur at any time, and the amount of blood flowing out is very small, so there is no need to worry too much. As for why nosebleeds are particularly severe in winter, it is mainly because in cold weather, we like to eat some hot food. When eating, the bursts of heat will accelerate the circulation of blood in the nasal cavity. If the nasal mucosa is naturally thin or has been injured, nosebleeds are likely to occur. In addition, in a cold and dry environment, we need more blood to flow through the nasal cavity to increase the temperature and humidity. The capillaries in the nasal mucosa are therefore prone to congestion, leading to nosebleeds.

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the causes of nosebleeds can be divided into two categories: dryness and heat and weakness. If you have frequent nosebleeds and also suffer from nasal allergies, with yellow or green nasal discharge, or if your lips are often red and you have bad breath, then you are suffering from very dry heat. First of all, of course, we need to clear away heat. More importantly, we should not let him eat too much delicious food on a daily basis. Snacks such as chocolate, cookies, French chips, etc. are also very heaty and should be eaten as little as possible.

Treatment of nosebleeds in adults:

1. The blood clot should be blown out before stopping the bleeding to avoid the inability to stop the bleeding due to the inability to close the wound.

2. Soak cotton with decongestant or nasal spray and insert it into the nostrils to help stop the bleeding. White vinegar can also work.

3. Pinch part of the nose flesh with your fingers and keep pressing for five to seven minutes to help stop the bleeding.

4. Sit up straight to prevent blood from flowing into your throat.

5. Ice compress can cause blood vessels to contract and reduce bleeding.

6. After the blood coagulates, it will form a blood clot and scab. At this time, it is best not to pick your nose to avoid peeling off the scab and causing recurrence of nosebleeds.

7. Apply antibiotic or steroid ointment to relieve itching and prevent mucus from drying up.

8. If your left (right) nostril is bleeding, raise your right (left) arm and the bleeding will stop after a few minutes.

9. Push the nostril on the bleeding side towards the bridge of the nose and hold it there for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the blood in it to coagulate and stop the bleeding.

If bleeding occurs on both sides, pinch both nostrils. After the nosebleed stops, there are often blood clots in the nostrils. Do not rush to get them out. Try to avoid sneezing and rubbing hard to prevent further bleeding.

10. When the patient's left (right) nostril is bleeding, another person can hook the middle finger of the patient's right (left) middle finger and bend it forcefully. Generally, the bleeding can stop in a few tens of seconds. Or, you can tie the root of the patient's middle finger with a cloth strip, and if the left (right) nostril is bleeding, tie the right (left) middle finger. After the nosebleed stops, untie the cloth strip.

11. Take an appropriate amount of garlic, peel it and mash it into garlic paste. Apply it on the soles of your feet and wrap it with gauze to stop bleeding quickly.

12. Let the patient sit on a chair and soak his feet in hot water to stop nosebleeds.

13. If you have frequent nosebleeds, you need to go to the hospital for further diagnosis and treatment.
