Does nasopharyngeal cancer cause fever? What are the common symptoms?

Nasopharyngeal cancer may cause fever. Many cancer tumors can cause fever. Patients should pay attention.

Symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer include:

1. Nosebleeds and epistaxis.

When the lesion is located on the posterior wall of the nasopharyngeal roof, when the nasal or nasopharyngeal secretions are absorbed backwards with force, mild lesions will cause blood in the "sputum" after a runny nose, and severe cases may cause nose bleeding. Ulcers or cauliflower are common on the surface of the tumor, while submucosal types are rare.

2Ear symptoms.

The tumor is in the pharyngeal recess or the occipital area of the Eustachian tube. Due to tumor infiltration, it compresses the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube, and causes symptoms and signs of secretory otitis media: tinnitus, hearing loss, etc. Clinically, many nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients are discovered because of ear symptoms.

3. Nasal symptoms.

Primary cancer infiltration into the posterior nasal cavity can cause mechanical obstruction, and tumors located on the anterior wall of the nasopharyngeal roof are more likely to cause nasal obstruction. Nasal obstruction accounts for 15.9% and 48.0% of the initial symptoms.

4. Headache.

Headache is a common symptom. Clinically, it is often manifested as unilateral persistent pain, mostly in the temporal and parietal regions.

5. Eye symptoms.

Although nasopharyngeal carcinoma invades the orbit or nerves related to the eyeball, some patients still have this symptom. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma invasion of the eye often causes the following symptoms and signs: visual impairment, blindness, visual defects, diplopia, proptosis and limited movement of the eyeball, and neuroparalytic keratitis. Fundus examination can show optic nerve atrophy and edema.

6Symptoms of cranial nerve damage.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma infiltrates the surrounding areas through the trigeminal nerve, abducens nerve, glossopharyngeal nerve, hypoglossal nerve, olfactory nerve, facial nerve, and auditory nerve.

7. Cervical lymph node metastasis.

The swollen lymph nodes in the neck are painless, hard, and mobile in the early stages, but adherent to the skin or deep tissues in the late stages.

8 In some cases of distant metastasis, distant metastasis is the main complaint.

9 Systemic organ failure can lead to cachexia and death, and sudden bleeding can lead to death.
