What is Endometrial Cancer

What is Endometrial Cancer

Endometrial cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the endometrium. The endometrium is a layer of tissue that makes up the inner wall of a woman's uterus. It plays a key role in a woman's physiological cycle, including the occurrence of menstruation and embryo implantation. When this layer of tissue cells proliferates abnormally and out of control, endometrial cancer may form.

The exact cause of endometrial cancer is still not fully understood, but the medical community has discovered some high-risk factors. For example, long-term unopposed estrogen stimulation, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, infertility or sterility, and delayed menopause may all be associated with an increased risk of endometrial cancer. Genetic factors also affect the likelihood of an individual developing endometrial cancer to a certain extent.

Endometrial cancer may not have obvious specific symptoms in the early stage. As the disease progresses, patients may experience abnormal vaginal bleeding, irregular menstruation, increased vaginal discharge with odor, etc. The appearance of these symptoms should arouse women's high vigilance and seek medical attention for relevant examinations in time.

Diagnosis of endometrial cancer usually requires an endometrial biopsy, which is a procedure to obtain endometrial tissue for pathological examination. Once diagnosed, treatment options will depend on the stage of the cancer, the patient's age and overall health, and may include a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or hormone therapy.

To prevent endometrial cancer, women should actively control high-risk factors, such as maintaining a healthy weight, managing chronic diseases, and avoiding long-term use of estrogen without progestin opposition.

Endometrial cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the female reproductive system, which seriously threatens women's health and life. By understanding its definition, causes, symptoms, diagnosis and prevention methods, women can better protect themselves, achieve early detection and early treatment, thereby improving the cure rate and quality of life.
