How long can you live if early cervical cancer is treated surgically

If patients undergo surgery for cervical cancer in the early stages and there is no metastasis after surgery, the 5-year survival rate can reach 80%-90%, and some patients may not even live to a normal lifespan. However, if distant metastasis occurs or there are high-risk factors, the survival time will depend on the specific circumstances.

1. Does not affect lifespan

1. Stage I: The tumor infiltration is limited to the cervical stroma, or has broken through the basement membrane and spread to the pelvic wall, but has not reached the outside of the pelvis, and has not involved the vagina or any other soft tissue except the paracervical tissue. It can usually be cured after active and effective treatment and generally does not pose a threat to life.

2. Stage IIA: The tumor invades part of the uterine body on the same side, but does not involve the appendages and vagina on that side. At this time, it can also be treated by surgery, such as extrafascial hysterectomy, etc. The prognosis is good, and even if no subsequent auxiliary treatment is performed, it will not affect normal life expectancy.

3. Stage IIIA: If the tumor has involved one or both ovaries, but there is no abdominal implantation or retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis, it can be treated with radical hysterectomy plus pelvic lymph node dissection, and the 5-year survival rate is about 67%.

4. Stage IVA: When the tumor has spread beyond the pelvic wall but has not yet exceeded the level of the ischial spine and is accompanied by symptoms such as hydronephrosis and ureteral obstruction, it can be treated with radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy. Radical radiotherapy can also be chosen to prolong the patient's survival time and improve the quality of life.

2. Impact on lifespan

When patients with advanced cervical cancer develop symptoms such as liver enlargement, jaundice, ascites, pleural effusion or other organ metastasis, the disease is serious and cannot be completely cured. It can only delay the progression of the disease, thereby shortening the patient's survival time. In addition, for patients with gene mutations, targeted therapy such as bevacizumab injection can be used as directed by the doctor to improve symptoms.

It is recommended that such patients go to the hospital's gynecology department for timely diagnosis, complete visual examination, B-ultrasound examination, pathological examination, etc. to make a clear diagnosis, and then actively cooperate with the doctor for targeted treatment to avoid delaying the disease. In addition, in daily life, you should also pay attention to maintaining a good attitude and avoid excessive tension and anxiety.
