Features of herpes zoster

1. It most commonly occurs in the chest, abdomen or waist, and then also occurs in the trigeminal nerve distribution area. At the beginning of the disease, the main symptoms are general fatigue, loss of appetite, and mild fever.

2. Rash: Generally, red maculopapules or papules will appear, which will gradually develop into clear herpes groups after 2-3 days. The skin erythema and blisters are clustered and arranged in bands, and will turn into pustules or ulcers in 3-5 days.

3. Pain: Pain is a common feature of shingles. The pain varies in severity. Generally, neuralgia will occur about 1 to 2 days before the rash appears, which is a stabbing pain like a needle prick, until the rash subsides.

The nature of the pain is usually tingling and burning. Some middle-aged and elderly patients may be left with persistent neuralgia after the damage subsides, which may last for months or even longer.

How to treat herpes zoster

1. Use antiviral drugs: Antiviral drugs such as ribavirin and acyclovir can reduce the formation of new rashes, suppress pain, and stop the spread of the virus.

2. Clearing away heat and detoxifying: Choose to take Xihuang Pills orally. This medicine is mainly made of Chinese medicinal materials such as bezoar, musk, myrrh, frankincense, etc. It has the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, reducing swelling, can relieve the condition, make the erythema lighter in color, and the chickenpox slowly become deflated and scabby.

3. Pain relief: In some serious cases, painkillers are needed to suppress the pain. Aspirin, acetaminophen, indomethacin, ibuprofen, Xinhuang tablets, etc. are all optional drugs.

4. Local medication: Apply compound zinc-copper solution or boric acid solution to the acne area, and apply acyclovir cream externally. In addition, commonly used hydrogen peroxide and calamine lotion are also effective when applied externally.

Precautions

1. During the bath, you can apply cold water to the affected area, but remember not to flush it directly with hot water or scratch it with your hands to avoid increasing the chance of infection.

2. During the treatment period, you should eat more vegetables and fruits and less greasy food, especially fish, shrimp and seafood. Cleansing the intestines and fasting the mouth are very necessary for the treatment of herpes zoster.

3. Pay attention to rest and avoid fatigue. Once the human body's immunity decreases, it is most vulnerable to viral attacks. Therefore, during the treatment process, you should pay attention to physical exercise and rest. Excessive fatigue will aggravate the condition.
