Can getting up at night to urinate prevent bladder cancer? These habits are related to bladder cancer

In life, many people like to hold their urine at night and don't want to get up. This practice is wrong. Experts remind that getting up to urinate at night can reduce the risk of bladder cancer.

Getting up to urinate at night may help prevent bladder cancer

Many people are too lazy to get up to urinate at night and would rather hold it in than get up. However, a report published in the latest American "International Journal of Cancer" pointed out that getting up at night is not useless. Getting up at night to urinate can help reduce people's risk of bladder cancer.

Dr. Debra Silverman of the American Institute for Cancer Research led the study. He and his colleagues surveyed 884 bladder cancer patients and 996 healthy people. The researchers asked them to fill in whether they had the habit of getting up at night and how much water they usually drank, and tracked their lifestyle habits. The results showed that the more frequently you get up at night, the lower your risk of bladder cancer. Regardless of gender, people who get up at night at least twice a night have a 40%-50% lower risk of bladder cancer. The study also found that smokers who do not get up at night have a 7 times higher risk of bladder cancer than non-smokers; while smokers who get up at night have a 50% lower risk of bladder cancer. In addition, drinking more water can also help reduce the risk of bladder cancer. Compared with people who drink less than 0.4 liters of water a day, people who replenish at least 1.4 liters of water a day and urinate at least twice at night can reduce their risk of bladder cancer by 80%.
