Does all prostate cancer require surgery?

Does all prostate cancer require surgery?

Prostate cancer is a relatively common cancer. The early symptoms of prostate cancer are similar to prostate hyperplasia, mainly urinary difficulty such as frequent urination, urgency, and incomplete urination. When sciatica symptoms occur in the waist, buttocks, hips, etc., metastasis may have occurred. The pain affects the diet, sleep and spirit of prostate cancer patients. After long-term torture, the whole body condition becomes weaker and weaker, and progressive anemia or renal failure occurs.

Prostate cancer likes to attack the elderly, so surgical removal of the prostate is not suitable for everyone. The main reasons are as follows:

1. Age factor

Prostate cancer is a tumor that progresses very slowly. Even without treatment, its natural course can be as long as 10 years. For example, if the life expectancy of an 80-year-old patient is less than 10 years, the final cause of his death is often not prostate cancer. Therefore, surgical removal of the prostate is not recommended for elderly patients.

2. Postoperative complications

Complications after prostate cancer surgery often bring great pain to patients, such as postoperative urinary incontinence, postoperative urination difficulties, and postoperative sexual dysfunction.

3. Drug factors

Since the occurrence and development of prostate cancer is closely related to androgens, the use of drugs to block the synthesis of androgens or anti-androgens in clinical practice can often achieve good results in controlling tumors.

Therefore, patients with prostate cancer do not necessarily need to have their prostate removed. At the same time, prevention is the main approach for prostate cancer. It is recommended that middle-aged men have a physical examination every six months, because regular physical examinations can detect some painless or asymptomatic diseases at an early stage. For those over 45 years old who have frequent urination, increased nocturia, thinner urine flow, prolonged urination, and difficulty urinating, they should first consider whether they have prostate cancer. They should immediately ask a doctor to check and pay attention to distinguishing it from diseases such as chronic prostate hyperplasia.
