Why can't you apply ice to burns

Burns are generally a type of human injury caused by the surface of human skin coming into contact with high temperature. In order to avoid damage to human skin and leaving ugly scars, people should deal with the burn wound quickly after the burn occurs. Some people think that ice compresses should be used on burns to calm the burn wounds, but ice compresses should not be used on burns. Today I will reveal to you the reason why ice compresses cannot be used on burns.

Mistake 1: Applying ice immediately after a burn

High temperatures can damage your skin, and so can low temperatures. After a burn or scald, the damaged skin has lost the protection of the epidermis and should not be directly iced to avoid frostbite. Immediately rinse with gentle, running cold water for 30 minutes, or until the pain subsides.

Mistake 2: Applying ointment immediately after a burn

Applying ointment will cause the heat energy to wrap around the skin and continue to damage it. The correct way to deal with it is to flush it with water to cool it down immediately.

Mistake 3: Being shocked by household non-high voltage electricity will not cause harm

Being shocked by ordinary household non-high voltage electricity may not cause burns or serious injuries, but it is very dangerous if the current flows through important organs such as the heart, lungs, brain, and kidneys. For example, electric current passing through the heart can easily cause arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, or death. Also, no matter what kind of electric injury, as long as the patient is unconscious, even if it only takes a few seconds to recover, he should be sent to the hospital for treatment immediately. Because some symptoms of electric shock occur over a delayed period of time, they often catch people off guard once they occur.

Mistake 4: Blisters cannot be broken

If the diameter of the blister is less than two centimeters, there is no need to break it; if the diameter of the blister is larger than two centimeters, or it is located in joints and other places with frequent activities and friction, in order to avoid accidentally breaking the blister and causing a larger wound, you can puncture it with a sterile needle or cotton swab, absorb the tissue fluid, disinfect it with iodine, and cover it with gauze. Be careful not to remove the epidermis over the blister, which serves as a protective layer.

Mistake 5: Soy sauce, coffee, etc. will make scars darker

The depth of scar color is closely related to the pigmentation caused by ultraviolet radiation. Pay attention to sun protection within 3 to 6 months after the wound heals. Before going out, applying sunscreen or wearing long clothes can avoid or reduce pigmentation.

Dark-colored foods will not make scars darker, but tobacco, alcohol and irritating foods will affect wound healing. The slower the wound heals, the greater the chance of leaving scars in the future. Therefore, it is better to avoid touching these things until the wound is completely healed.
