What is fibroid?

What is fibroid? Fibroid disease is harmful to our health, so we need to understand the characteristics of fibroid disease when it occurs, so as to facilitate early detection and treatment to reduce the harm of the disease to the body. Today I will introduce to you, what is fibroid?

Fibroids are often found under the skin, grow slowly, are generally small, have clear edges, smooth surfaces, are hard, and can be pushed. If mixed with other components, they become fibromyomas, fibroadenomas, fibrolipomas, etc. Fibroids, especially desmoids in the abdominal wall muscles, can become malignant and should be completely removed as soon as possible.

General treatment and prevention: There are several types of fibroids. a. Xanthofibroma: It is common in the dermis or subcutaneous layer of the trunk and proximal upper arm. It often originates from small papules after trauma or itching. The lumps are hard and have unclear edges. Because of internal bleeding, it contains hemosiderin and is dark brown. If the tumor is larger than 1 cm and grows rapidly, it should be suspected to be a fibrosarcoma. Surgical resection must be thorough. b. Protuberant dermatofibrosarcoma: It is located in the dermis, protrudes from the body surface, has smooth skin on the surface, and is similar to a keloid. It is common in the trunk. It is low-grade malignant and has a pseudocapsule. It is easy to recur after resection. Multiple recurrences increase the malignancy and can metastasize through the blood. The tumor with enough normal skin and deep adjacent fascia should be removed as soon as possible. c. Band-like fibroma: It is caused by the reparative hyperplasia of the abdominal wall muscles after trauma or birth injury. It has no obvious capsule and is suitable for surgical resection.

Fibroids should be removed surgically at an early stage, and the surrounding tissues should be removed appropriately. Desmoid tumors should be removed extensively at an early stage. The tumors should be sent for pathological examination after surgery to exclude malignancy, and medication is generally not required.
