Is endometrial cancer a genetic disease?

There are indeed cases of hereditary cases of endometrial cancer in clinical practice, and even women without a family history of cancer can suffer from the disease.

Endometrial cancer genetics

Ms. Liu is already over 50 years old. Not long ago, she was diagnosed with endometrial abnormalities during a community-organized physical examination. The doctor recommended that she go to a professional hospital for further examination and diagnosis. Accompanied by her daughter, Ms. Liu went to the New Era Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital near her home for an examination.

After a series of detailed examinations, Ms. Liu was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Ms. Liu never thought that her mother died of this disease many years ago, and now she has endometrial cancer. Could this disease be hereditary? So Ms. Liu consulted an expert, is endometrial cancer really hereditary?

Experts explain that genetic factors affect about 20% of endometrial cancer patients. Women with this disease in their family have a much higher incidence of endometrial cancer than ordinary women. Therefore, women with a family history should pay special attention. However, this does not mean that women with a family history will definitely develop endometrial cancer, but the chance of getting the disease is higher.

Irregular vaginal bleeding before and after menopause is the main symptom of endometrial cancer. It is usually a small to moderate amount of bleeding. Due to the blockage of the cervical canal, pus will accumulate in the uterine cavity, and the lower abdomen will experience distension and cramp-like pain. In the early stage, there may be only a small amount of bloody leucorrhea, but in the late stage, a large amount of foul-smelling pus and blood will be discharged. If pus accumulates in the cervical cavity, it will cause fever, abdominal pain, and leukocytosis, and the disease will deteriorate very quickly.

The expert recommended that Ms. Liu undergo surgery immediately to prevent the cancer cells from spreading to the entire pelvic cavity, which would make the condition difficult to control. In addition, the expert also recommended that Ms. Liu's daughter also undergo a detailed endometrial cancer examination to avoid the existence of hidden disease risks.

Ms. Liu's daughter's examination results were all normal, and Ms. Liu also underwent surgery smoothly and is recovering. Experts reminded Ms. Liu that she must go to the hospital for regular checkups to prevent cancer cells from recurring. Ms. Liu's daughter, who is at high risk of endometrial cancer, also needs regular physical examinations to prevent it from happening.
