Patients with malignant tumors need to be alert to the early symptoms of bone metastasis

Bone cancer caused by bone metastasis is the most common complication in the development of malignant tumors, especially in patients with advanced prostate cancer or breast cancer, about 70% of patients have bone metastasis. In other cancers such as lung cancer, intestinal cancer, gastric cancer, uterine cancer, rectal cancer, thyroid cancer or kidney cancer, 15% to 30% of patients have bone metastasis accompanied by severe pain, pathological fractures, hypercalcemia and neurogenic compression syndrome. This is because normal adult bone tissue is constantly being reshaped, and bones release a large amount of growth factors in this process, thus providing a good environment for the landing and reproduction of tumor cells.

Bone metastasis of tumors can be roughly divided into three categories: osteolytic metastasis, osteoblastic metastasis and mixed metastasis. Mixed metastasis is more common in clinical practice. Patients with malignant tumors or a history of malignant tumors should be alert to the occurrence of bone metastasis and its early symptoms.

1) Pain, which is mild and intermittent in the early stage, gradually becomes continuous, increasingly severe, and progresses rapidly;

2) Superficial cases may cause swelling and masses;

3) Nerve compression symptoms: Spinal metastases may cause compression symptoms of the spinal cord, cauda equina or nerve roots, radicular neuralgia, sensory loss, weakened or even lost muscle strength, and may be accompanied by bowel and bladder dysfunction;

4) Pathological fractures, which may occur with slight external force;

5) Symptoms of primary tumor: anemia, weight loss, low fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc.
