Should I wake my sleeping baby up to feed him?

When it comes to feeding babies, different people have different opinions. Even those who claim to be experts in parenting have different views. Now many parents choose the principle of feeding at regular times and in fixed quantities, but there is a problem with this. Because babies sleep very irregularly, if the baby is sleeping and needs to be fed, do you need to wake the baby up to feed?

Should I wake my sleeping baby up to feed him?

Some angel babies love to sleep in. Although this allows their mothers to have a good rest, mothers will inevitably worry that the baby will be hungry after sleeping for so long. Today, let’s mainly discuss whether the baby should be woken up to feed when he is sleeping?

If the baby is sleeping soundly, as long as the sleep time is not too long, the mother does not need to wake the baby up to feed. If the sleep time exceeds 4 hours, the mother can gently wake the baby up. Generally, babies will wake up naturally when they are hungry, and mothers do not need to wake them up. However, from a physiological point of view, the baby's stomach is emptied every 3 to 4 hours or so. Therefore, if the baby is still sleeping for more than 4 hours, you can wake him up.

For breastfed babies, if they sleep for more than 4 hours, the mother can put the nipple in the baby's mouth, the baby will suck naturally, and then it is better to wake the baby up slowly. Babies who are mixed-fed or bottle-fed should also be fed every 3 to 4 hours. The mother can support the baby's head and neck with one hand and the baby's waist and hips with the other hand, hold the baby horizontally, place it in front of the chest, and gently rock it several times, and the baby will open his eyes. After the baby wakes up, the mother can breastfeed the baby. Of course, if the baby is sleeping soundly and it is difficult for the mother to wake him up, the mother should not wake him up. If the mother wakes the baby up forcibly, the baby will not get enough sleep and will feel uncomfortable and cry, which will reduce his appetite.

You should know that sleeping conditions are one of the indicators of whether your baby is sick. Therefore, parents should also pay attention that the longer the baby's sleep time is, the better. If your baby sleeps too long, exceeds the physiological range, or suddenly exceeds the usual sleep time, you should also pay attention to see if the baby is sick. If you find that your baby is sleepy, not eating, not crying, not moving, or is easily awakened after falling asleep, cries and is restless, sweats a lot, and other abnormal conditions, do not mistakenly think that it is a physiological phenomenon and ignore it. You should take your baby to the hospital for timely examination and treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
