What's the matter with vertical lines on fingernails without crescents?

Nails do not only have the function of scratching itch. In fact, the small nails fully reflect the health status of the human body. If there are straight lines on the nails but no other symptoms of infection, it is generally caused by malnutrition of the nails. The absence of half-moons indicates that the gastrointestinal function of the body is not very good. In today's life, many girls go for manicures, which is very bad for the nails.

1. Clubbing: The nail is significantly arched upward and curved around the finger. Nail clubbing may indicate emphysema, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, ulcerative colitis, or cirrhosis of the liver.

2. Blue Crescent: If the crescent-shaped white mark at the base of the nail has a blue halo, it may indicate any of the following conditions: obstructed blood circulation, heart disease, Raynaud's syndrome, vascular spasm of the fingers and toes, usually due to cold exposure. But it is sometimes associated with rheumatoid arthritis or the autoimmune disease lupus erythematosus.

3. Spoon-shaped nails: The middle of the nail is sunken, and the entire nail becomes flat or spoon-shaped. This type of nails is related to iron deficiency anemia, syphilis, thyroid disorders, rheumatic fever, etc.

4. Lindsay's nails: The half of the nail near the tip is pink or brown, and the half near the nail is white. This type of nail is also known as two-part nails, which may be a sign of chronic renal failure.

5. Beau's lines: Horizontal grooves on the nails indicate malnutrition or some serious illness that temporarily affects nail growth, such as measles, rib inflammation, or sudden heart attack.

6. Thali's nails: Most of the skin under the nail turns white, leaving only a small part near the tip of the nail that remains normal pink. This may indicate cirrhosis of the liver.

7. Yellow nail syndrome: The growth rate of nails slows down and they become thick and hard; they are yellow or green. Causes include chronic respiratory diseases, thyroid diseases or lymphatic diseases.

8. Bleeding: If these longitudinal red lines appear on the nails, it indicates microvascular bleeding. If multiple such blood lines appear, it may indicate chronic hypertension, psoriasis, or a fatal infection called subacute bacterial endocarditis.

9. Irregular pits: Many psoriasis patients have this phenomenon.

10. Rows of pits: The surface of the nails becomes like the surface of copperware hammered by a coppersmith, sometimes caused by alopecia areata. This is an immune disease that is not well understood by the medical community and can cause partial or complete loss of hair.

11. Brown or black spots: These spots, especially those that extend from the nail to the surrounding finger tissue, may indicate melanoma. They may be a single large patch or a cluster of smaller spots, and are most common on the thumb and big toe.
