Are the sequelae of gallbladder removal terrible?

Nowadays, cholecystectomy is a relatively simple surgery. After all, medical technology has improved a lot. Especially gastrointestinal cholecystectomy is less traumatic and recovers faster. Therefore, many patients will choose this surgical method. However, any surgery has some disadvantages while having many advantages, and gallbladder removal surgery may also cause some sequelae to the body.

Are the sequelae of gallbladder removal terrible?

First of all, the removal of the gallbladder is bound to cause certain damage to the bile duct. Therefore, since each patient's body function is different, the degree of damage they can withstand is also different. Severe patients may also develop bile duct complications or even cause death. Data show that the probability of death is about 0.18% to 2.3%.

Secondly, cholecystectomy may also induce the risk of colon cancer. This is because after cholecystectomy, all functions of the gallbladder are lost, and bile acid will continue to flow into the intestine 24 hours a day. Once it comes into contact with bacteria, it will produce secondary bile acid. Secondary bile acid will cause colon cancer due to long-term damage to the colon.

Finally, some patients will also develop some gallbladder surgery syndrome. For example, the sphincter and movement will be affected to a certain extent, which will cause certain inflammation. This is because the bile secreted by the gallbladder can maintain the pressure balance of the bile duct. Once the gallbladder is missing, this balance will be broken, thereby affecting the normal function of the sphincter.

Precautions

1. Compared with conventional open surgery, minimally invasive surgery generally does not require stitches to be removed. Because the incisions are small, as long as the dressings on the three wounds are kept dry, if there are curling, moisture, contamination, or allergies to the dressing covering after discharge, the dressing can be removed by yourself.

2. Most importantly, you cannot shower within 10 days after surgery. If the wound becomes inflamed, you should go to the nearest hospital for outpatient treatment in time, and the doctor will perform routine treatment.

3. Because of anesthesia, some people are particularly sensitive to anesthetics, which may cause dizziness, vomiting and other phenomena. These are generally normal reactions. After the drug effect period, these symptoms will be alleviated and even disappear. For example, if the first time you eat liquid food after surgery and it causes vomiting, you need to observe the color of the vomit. If it is a dark green liquid, it is generally bile (simply don't eat, it will be fine the next day). If it is dark red or brown, you must be alert and keep the vomit for the nurse to check.

4. If there is pain in the abdomen or upper shoulder, it is also a postoperative syndrome, which is usually caused by the diaphragm nerves radiating to the shoulders. This is because carbon dioxide gas will be injected into the patient's abdominal cavity during the operation, thereby lifting the affected abdomen, which is conducive to the performance of minimally invasive cutting surgery. If the patient can walk around to the best of his ability, doing some light exercise will also help the gas to be gradually discharged. In short, this phenomenon will improve day by day, so there is no need to worry too much.
