Reaction to the pentavalent vaccine

One of the great achievements of modern medicine is the invention of various vaccines, which has brought hope to human health, because vaccines can effectively prevent the occurrence of various diseases and create many favorable conditions for people's lives. There are many types of vaccines. Some people prefer to inject them separately, while others prefer to inject them together. This can greatly improve the prevention effect. Let’s take a look at the reactions to the pentavalent vaccine.

As the name suggests, the pentavalent vaccine is a vaccine that protects against five infectious diseases. The pentavalent vaccine can prevent five very serious diseases, so many people choose to give their children the pentavalent vaccine.

(1) Systemic and injection site adverse reactions:

① Very common: fever (37.1～38℃); tenderness, erythema and induration at the injection site.

②Common: Fever ≥38℃.

③ Occasionally: fever ≥39℃; redness and swelling ≥5cm at the injection site.

④ Rare: fever >40℃; lower limb edema (occurs within hours after vaccination with Hib-containing vaccines, accompanied by cyanosis or transient purpura, which can resolve on its own without sequelae; sometimes accompanied by fever, pain and crying, but not accompanied by cardiopulmonary signs).

(2) Gastrointestinal disorders:

①Very common: vomiting.

②Common: diarrhea.

(3) Metabolism and nutrition disorders: Very common: Loss of appetite.

(4) Nervous system disorders: Very common: Somnolence.

(5) Mental disorders:

①Very common: irritability, abnormal crying.

②Common: sleep disorders.

In the Phase I clinical trial conducted in China, whether it was a single dose of vaccination for children aged 18 to 24 months or basic immunization for 2-month-old infants, the results showed that no serious vaccine-related adverse events or severe reactions occurred. In the Phase III clinical trial, regardless of whether the 2-3-4 months or 3-4-5 months vaccination schedule was used, the local adverse reaction rates and systemic adverse reaction rates of the pentavalent vaccine group and the single vaccine control group were similar, and were both at a low level.

Although there may be many adverse reactions after the injection of the pentavalent vaccine, these adverse reactions are generally mild and will not affect the child’s normal life. Therefore, these reactions are acceptable and parents do not need to be overly nervous.
