The human ear can develop many diseases, such as the well-known otitis media, or thickening of the ear, etc. The human ear canal is relatively narrow and very sensitive. Any disease in these parts will affect hearing, so patients must be cautious. For many diseases, traditional Chinese medicine massage treatment can be used. So in Chinese medicine, what is the corresponding part of the ear?

On the basis of a comprehensive understanding of the medical history, the primary and secondary diseases can be distinguished and acupoints can be selected appropriately. Acupoints can be selected according to the corresponding parts, TCM syndrome differentiation, ear acupoint functions and clinical experience.

1. Select acupoints based on corresponding parts: If lesions occur in the internal organs, limbs, or organs, there will be tender points (or reaction points) at the corresponding parts of the auricle, which can be used as the basis for selecting acupoints. For example, for stomach problems, the stomach point is used; for ankle sprain, the ankle point is used; and a blunt-tipped probe can be used to find the tender points.

2. Select acupoints based on syndrome differentiation and theory of traditional Chinese medicine: According to the theory of viscera in traditional Chinese medicine, the liver and gallbladder, the heart and small intestine, the kidney and bladder, the spleen and stomach are mutually exterior and interior. Therefore, the gallbladder acupoint is used for liver disease, the small intestine acupoint is used for heart disease, and the lung acupoint is used for enteritis. According to the traditional Chinese medicine theory that the liver opens to the eyes, the heart opens to the tongue, the spleen opens to the mouth (lips), the lungs open to the nose, and the kidneys open to the ears, eye diseases are treated with liver points, otitis media with kidney points, and rhinitis with lung points. According to the theory that the liver controls the tendons, the heart controls the blood, the spleen controls the muscles, the lungs control the skin and hair, and the kidneys control the bones, the lung acupoints are used to treat skin diseases, the kidney acupoints are used to treat orthopedic diseases, and the spleen acupoints are used to treat muscle diseases.

3. Acupoints are selected based on Western medical theories: Subcortical points have the function of regulating the cerebral cortex, so subcortical points are used to treat nervous system diseases; sympathetic points have the function of regulating the autonomic nervous system, so sympathetic points are used to treat visceral diseases; Pingchuan points have the function of regulating the respiratory center and anti-allergic, so Pingchuan points are used to treat asthma.

4. Select acupoints based on clinical experience: Through a large amount of clinical practice, effective ear acupoints for treating diseases have been summarized, such as the eye point, liver point, and spleen point, which can treat styes; Shenmen point, subcortical point, heat point and corresponding parts (such as ankle sprain, the corresponding part of the ear point is the ankle) can treat sprains; cervical vertebra point, cervical point, Shenmen point, and external genitalia point can treat stiff neck; occipital point, forehead point, lesser occipital nerve point, Shenmen point, and subcortical point can treat headaches.
