What is Chest CT?

This is a CT scan of the chest. CT is based on the different absorption and transmittance of radiation by different parts of the object being tested. A computer collects the transmitted radiation and forms a three-dimensional image, which can detect more tiny lesions in the body. The sensitivity is higher than that of chest X-ray, but the exposure time to radioactivity is longer, and the amount of radiation received is naturally much greater.

How to choose between chest X-ray and chest CT?

Under normal circumstances, for the general population, a chest X-ray can achieve the effect of preliminary screening for lung and mediastinal diseases. There is no need for a CT scan, which can avoid exposure to large amounts of radiation. However, for some high-risk groups such as those with lung cancer, chest CT should be chosen, as the accuracy of chest X-rays is not very high. For middle-aged and elderly men who like to smoke, they can also choose PET-CT if conditions permit, which is a more effective screening examination.
