Do you have to lie flat if you have hip effusion?

There is no need to lie flat when there is hip effusion. You can lie on your side or lie flat, as long as you feel comfortable. However, when there is hip effusion, you must rest in bed more, do not walk around, do not lift heavy objects, and you can apply hot compresses appropriately, which is good for the hip joint. When you are sick, you must avoid certain foods, eat a light diet, and avoid spicy or irritating foods to avoid causing inflammatory infections.

Hip effusion does not necessarily require lying flat. Because of hip joint effusion, bed rest is recommended during treatment. The main purpose of bed rest is to reduce the increased load on the hip joint due to the weight or activity of the limbs, which causes friction around the hip joint and aggravates the progression of the disease. Bed rest can reduce local exudation caused by inflammation. More frequent hot washes and hot compresses can promote the recovery of blood circulation and promote recovery from the disease. You can lie in any position as long as it can relieve the pressure on the hip joint, but lying on the side is generally not recommended.

Hip effusions are classified according to their cause:

1. Infectious effusion: During anti-infection treatment, the patient is required to lie flat, reduce activity, and allow the hip joint to fully rest;

2. Traumatic effusion: For example, femoral head necrosis causes hip joint effusion, and rest can significantly relieve the pain symptoms;

3. Hip joint effusion caused by rheumatic autoimmune diseases: mainly anti-rheumatic, treat the primary disease, and gradually absorb the joint effusion. Lying flat to rest and reducing hip joint activity can reduce the secretion of synovial fluid and facilitate recovery from the disease.

Hip effusion is often caused by synovial inflammation, trauma and other diseases. The treatment principle for this condition is to rest mainly, and use anti-inflammatory, analgesic, detumescent, and antibacterial drugs. Because hip joint effusion occurs after lying down and resting, the movement of the hip joint is reduced, and the inflammatory exudation of the synovium is reduced in this case. Therefore, it is beneficial to the absorption of hip joint effusion and improve hip joint symptoms. Allows the hip joint to recover quickly. Therefore, it is best to lie flat if you have hip effusion.
