Can I use cupping to treat diarrhea

People often suffer from diarrhea due to improper diet, cold stomach and intestines, or inflammation of the digestive system. Frequent trips to the toilet due to diarrhea not only delay work, but in severe cases can also cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance in the body. Many middle-aged and elderly friends often use traditional Chinese medicine physiotherapy methods, such as moxibustion, massage, cupping and other methods to treat and relieve various pains and diseases in the body, so they can't help but wonder: Can cupping be used for diarrhea?

Diarrhea refers to bowel movements that are significantly more frequent than usual, with thin stools, increased water content, daily stool volume exceeding 200g, or containing undigested food or pus, blood, or mucus. Diarrhea is often accompanied by symptoms such as the urge to defecate, anal discomfort, and incontinence. Diarrhea can be divided into two categories: acute and chronic. Acute diarrhea develops rapidly and lasts for 2 to 3 weeks. Chronic diarrhea refers to recurrent diarrhea with a course of more than two months or an interval of 2 to 4 weeks.

Cupping therapy for diarrhea:

1. The patient lies on his back and uses a medium-sized cupping jar with a diameter of 6 cm to apply a cup to the navel (equivalent to the area centered on the Shenque point, including the Tianshu points on both sides). Generally, this is done every one or four days. Often, 1 to 3 times can relieve or cure the symptoms. It is suitable for frequent loose stools, or cold grayish white loose stools, or undigested loose stools.

2. Acupoints: ① Tianshu, Guanyuan, Zusanli, Shangjuxu; ② Dachangshu, Xiaochangshu, Zusanli, Xiajuxu. Select cupping cups of different calibers according to the location of the acupoints, and use the above two groups of acupoints alternately, once a day or every other day, for cupping treatment. This method is suitable for diarrhea caused by spleen and stomach deficiency and cold.

Cupping precautions

When using cupping, you need to be quick in order to tighten the cup and achieve strong adsorption. If blisters form on the skin due to burns or cupping for too long, small blisters do not need to be treated. Just apply sterile gauze to prevent abrasion. If the blisters are larger, use a sterile needle to drain the water, apply gentian violet solution, or wrap with sterile gauze to prevent infection. Cupping is not suitable for areas of the skin with allergies, ulcers, edema, or where large blood vessels are distributed. Cupping is also not suitable for people with high fever and convulsions, as well as pregnant women's abdomen and lumbar sacral area.

What can't you eat if you have diarrhea?

1. Irritating foods: Hot peppers, mustard, pepper, garlic and other highly irritating foods can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, easily causing diarrhea or gastrointestinal inflammation, and are not conducive to the recovery of gastrointestinal function.

2. Too greasy food: Too greasy food will increase the burden on the stomach and cause diarrhea due to indigestion, which is typical fatty diarrhea. Therefore, people with diarrhea should not eat greasy food, as this will only aggravate the diarrhea.

3. Too cold food: Cold drinks, cold dishes and other too cold things will stimulate the intestines, speed up intestinal peristalsis and make diarrhea more serious.

3. Foods that have laxative and intestinal moisturizing effects: Foods that have laxative and intestinal moisturizing effects, such as peaches, bananas, honey, etc., will aggravate the condition after consumption.

4. Eggs: Eggs are high-protein foods and are difficult to digest. Eating eggs not only fails to nourish the body, but instead aggravates the condition.
