Plums can be stored in the refrigerator. Because plums ripen faster when the temperature is high, putting them in the refrigerator can slow down the ripening of plums. Cold storage can keep the plums in the best flavor and prevent them from rotting. Place them in an open plastic bag, do not seal the bag, and place in the refrigerator. Plums will keep in the refrigerator for two to four weeks. Before storing plums in the refrigerator, make sure it is clean and odor-free. Otherwise the plums will absorb the odor. Store the plums in the fresh fruit and vegetable container in the refrigerator.

However, I need to remind everyone that you should not wash the plums before putting them in the refrigerator. Just put them in directly. And be as careful as possible when putting them in so that the plums are not damaged. Damaged plums ripen quickly and of course rot quickly, so try to minimize touching them.

If you grow a large number of plums at home, you can put a plastic mold in a cardboard box, then put the plums in and cover the plastic mold, and then use a toothpick to make several small holes (to prevent the moisture from drying out, if you don't make a few holes, the moisture will cause heat and the plums will go bad). In this way, they can be kept for half a month without going bad. You can also store plums in polyethylene film bags with a thickness of 0.025 mm. Remove the stems of the plums, remove diseased and insect-infested fruits, and rotten fruits, and put them into small polyethylene film bags. Each bag should contain 1-1.5 kilograms. After sealing, place them at a temperature of -1°C and they can be stored for 2-3 months. In addition, after being selected, the plums can be placed in a fresh-keeping box lined with wrapping paper or with a plastic plate, and the refrigerated temperature should be 0℃-1℃. Another method is to cover the plums in wet sand (not water-soaked sand). These methods can make the plums look like they were just picked from the tree.

1. Put the plums into a paper bag

If the plums smell bland and are hard, don't put them in the refrigerator yet; leave them outside for a few days. The ripening fruits release ethylene, and placing them around unripe plums can make the plums ripen faster. Don't rush to put unripe plums into the refrigerator. The low temperature will prevent them from ripening and the plum flesh will become powdery, bland and tasteless. If you don't want the plums to ripen so quickly, place them in a bowl in the air; they will ripen a few days later than if they were kept in a paper bag.

2. Allow the plums to ripen at room temperature

It is best to keep plums at 20 to 25 degrees Celsius to allow them to ripen slowly. Refrigerate it once it’s ripe. But be careful not to let the temperature be too high. If placed in the sun, it will easily rot due to excessive heat.
