Symptoms of Strawberry Hemangioma Regression

Symptoms of Strawberry Hemangioma Regression

Some newborn babies are very cute, with big eyes and long eyelashes, but they have a red spot on their face that looks like a birthmark. As they grow older, it gets bigger and bigger. Later, a doctor diagnosed it as a strawberry hemangioma. Some people say that this type of hemangioma can slowly disappear. If parents find that this hemangioma shows no signs of subsiding and is still growing, they must take their children to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.

1. Symptoms of regression of strawberry hemangioma

In many children, strawberry hemangiomas stop growing or regress within one year of age. 70% to 80% of patients are expected to completely resolve by the age of 7. Generally, hemangiomas are in the proliferative stage and grow rapidly within six months to one year old. After that, the growth gradually stagnates and enters a stable stage. Then the color of the lesions gradually fades and gradually disappears.

What is an infantile strawberry hemangioma?

Infantile strawberry hemangioma manifests as large-area capillary hemangioma accompanied by thrombocytopenic purpura in infants and young children. The purpura is not simply due to thrombocytopenia, but is also the result of consumptive coagulopathy. Usually, infantile strawberry hemangiomas are small nodular tumors that protrude from the skin surface. They are bright red or dark red in color and clearly demarcated from normal skin. The surface is warty or lobed, shaped like strawberry leaves. The tumor is soft and has a certain degree of compressibility. It is common on the face, scalp, neck, shoulders, back, and genitals, but can also occur anywhere. Single lesions are common, but multiple lesions may also occur.

3. Will strawberry hemangiomas disappear on their own?

Clinically, 25% of hemangiomas can regress, but not every patient can have their disease regress. Hemangiomas are benign lesions, and most children can heal themselves. If there are no obvious symptoms, they can be observed for the time being. If they continue to grow significantly, you need to go to the hospital in time, and the doctor will treat you according to the specific situation. Although hemangiomas may resolve on their own in many children, they often must be treated aggressively because the lesions grow rapidly and significantly affect their appearance. Small tumors are easier to treat, and treatments such as liquid nitrogen freezing and local injection of bleomycin have good effects. Surgery or cryosurgery can also be performed when the tumor is large, but it is easy to leave scars.

4. Serious harm of strawberry hemangioma

1. In the first 6 months, it grows rapidly and is extremely invasive. Within a few weeks, normal tissues can be severely damaged, so that the eyelids, lips, nose, ears and other tissues are covered by the expanding hemangioma tissue. The tumor is irregular in shape, purple or red, and is prone to rupture, bleeding, infection, necrosis, and scar formation.

2. As infant strawberry hemangioma grows larger, it can also cause a series of secondary problems, such as obstruction of the eyes and ears, swelling of the lips, etc., resulting in functional disorders of breathing, eating, vision, and hearing. Mixed hemangiomas grow rapidly after the baby is born, continuing to grow and expand, invading the surrounding skin and deep tissues, affecting their normal functions.
