What is the main ingredient of bleaching powder?

In daily life, people often use bleaching powder. The main function of bleaching powder is bleaching. In fact, bleaching powder is widely used in many industries. For example, it is indispensable in the food industry and chemical industry. The reason why bleaching powder works is because it contains ingredients that can produce chemical reactions. The following introduces the main components of bleaching powder.

The main ingredients of bleaching powder:

① According to the fact that bleaching powder is a mixture, the main components are Ca(ClO)2 and CaCl2, and the effective ingredient is Ca(ClO)2.

So the answer is: Ca(ClO)2;

② According to the principle of strong acid to weak acid, CH3COOH is more acidic than HClO, so Ca(ClO)2+2CH3COOH=(CH3COO)2Ca+2HClO.

So the answer is: Ca(ClO)2+2CH3COOH=(CH3COO)2Ca+2HClO;

③The active ingredient of bleaching powder is Ca(ClO)2, because Ca(ClO)2 can react with carbon dioxide and water in the air to produce hypochlorous acid: Ca(ClO)2+CO2+H2O=CaCO3↓+2HClO,

Therefore, the answer is: Ca(ClO)2+CO2+H2O=CaCO3↓+2HClO.

Bleaching powder is a mixture of calcium hydroxide, calcium chloride and calcium hypochlorite. Its main component is calcium hypochlorite [Ca(ClO)], and its effective chlorine content is 30%-38%. Bleaching powder is white or off-white powder or granules with a noticeable chlorine odor. It is very unstable, highly hygroscopic, and easily decomposed by light, heat, water, and ethanol. Bleaching powder dissolves in water, and its aqueous solution can turn litmus paper blue, which then gradually fades and turns white. When it comes into contact with carbon dioxide in the air, it can release hypochlorous acid, and when it comes into contact with dilute hydrochloric acid, it will produce a large amount of chlorine gas.

Bleaching powder is made by reacting chlorine gas with calcium hydroxide (slaked lime). Because absolutely dry calcium hydroxide does not react with chlorine, chlorine can only be adsorbed by calcium hydroxide. For this reason, slaked lime containing less than 1% free water is used in industry for chlorination, and the chlorine gas used also contains less than 0.06% water. The free water in these raw materials is used to hydrolyze chlorine to generate acids (HClO, HCl), which are then neutralized by slaked lime. Subsequently, the chlorine is further hydrolyzed by the water released by calcium hydroxide during the chlorination reaction, so that more calcium hydroxide participates in the reaction process and generates a series of compounds. Bleaching powder is a complex composed of these compounds.
