Anti-rabies virus serum

Anti-rabies virus serum

Many friends like to keep pets. Some pets have very bad tempers and occasionally bite people uncontrollably. When bitten by a pet, we need to inject anti-rabies serum, and it is important to inject anti-rabies serum in time. If it exceeds forty-eight hours, the incidence rate will increase. The composition, shape, usage, etc. of the injectable anti-rabies virus serum are introduced as follows.

1. Ingredients

Anti-rabies serum is a liquid or freeze-dried immunoglobulin preparation obtained by digesting plasma from horses immunized with fixed rabies virus with gastric enzymes and then using the ammonium sulfate salting-out method.

2. Properties

This product is a colorless or light yellow clear liquid. After long-term storage, a small amount of precipitate that can be shaken off may precipitate.

3. Indications

Used in conjunction with rabies vaccine to provide preventive injections for people who have been severely bitten by mad animals, such as on the head, face, neck or multiple parts of the body. The sooner the injection is given after being bitten by a mad animal, the better. Injecting this product within 48 hours after being bitten can reduce the incidence rate.

This drug is ineffective for patients who already have symptoms of rabies.

4. Specifications

Not less than 400IU/bottle.

5. Usage and Dosage

Usage: The injured area should be treated first. If the wound has been treated with other chemicals, it should be rinsed thoroughly. First, perform an infiltration injection on the injured area, and then inject the remaining serum intramuscularly. (Head bites can be injected into the back of the neck muscles).

Dosage: The injection volume is calculated based on body weight, 40 IU for every 1 kg of body weight (in severe cases, it can be increased to 80-100 IU as appropriate), injected in several times within 1-2 days. After the injection, start injecting rabies vaccine. Rabies vaccine can also be injected at the same time.

VI. Adverse Reactions

1. Anaphylactic shock: may occur suddenly during injection or within minutes to tens of minutes after injection. The patient suddenly becomes depressed or irritable, pale or flushed, has chest tightness or shortness of breath, cold sweats, nausea or abdominal pain, a rapid and weak pulse, and low blood pressure. In severe cases, the patient may become unconscious and collapse. If not treated in time, he or she may die quickly. For mild cases, the symptoms can be relieved by injecting epinephrine; for severe cases, fluid and oxygen infusion are required, pressor drugs are used to maintain blood pressure, and anti-allergic drugs and corticosteroids are used for rescue.

2. Serum sickness: The main symptoms are urticaria, fever, swollen lymph nodes, local edema, and occasionally proteinuria, vomiting, and joint pain. Erythema, itching, and edema may occur at the injection site. The disease usually occurs 7 to 14 days after injection and is called the delayed type. There are also cases where the disease occurs 2 to 4 days after injection, which is called the accelerated type. Serum sickness should be treated symptomatically, using calcium supplements or antihistamines. Generally, recovery can be achieved within a few days to a dozen days.

7. Taboos

Use with caution in patients with positive allergy test. See desensitization injection method for details.
