Clinical manifestations of stomach yin deficiency

There are many types of stomach diseases, and the methods of distinguishing stomach diseases by Chinese and Western medicine are also different. Gastric yin deficiency is a type of chronic gastritis. 1. Chronic gastritis has these eight symptoms

1. Patients with food stagnation and stomach damage

Improper diet can damage the spleen and stomach, causing food accumulation in the stomach, bloating and pain, nausea and vomiting, belching and acid regurgitation, constipation with a foul odor, red tongue, thick yellow greasy coating, and a wiry and slippery pulse.

The syndrome is food stagnation that damages the stomach and obstruction of intestinal qi. It is advisable to strengthen the spleen and stomach, and promote digestion and appetite.

Medicinal Atractylodes macrocephala and Poria cocos 12 grams each, hawthorn, Shenqu, chicken gizzard lining, malt, and fried radish seeds 15 grams each, costusroot, Magnolia officinalis, Pinellia, tangerine peel, Citrus aurantium, and rhubarb (packed separately and added later), and 5 slices of ginger. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

2. Patients with spleen and stomach deficiency and coldness

Distension and discomfort in the stomach, loss of appetite, vomiting of acid water, dull pain, aggravated by cold and relieved by warmth, severe pain when hungry, slightly reduced food intake, loose stools, fatigue, pale, distended tongue with teeth marks on the edges, thin white tongue coating, and deep, thin and weak or floating, large and weak pulse.

The syndrome is characterized by insufficient middle qi and cold spleen and stomach. It is advisable to tonify the middle qi, strengthen the spleen and warm the stomach.

The medicinal ingredients include 30 grams of roasted Astragalus, 15 grams of Codonopsis pilosula, 12 grams each of Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, yam, lentil, cuttlebone, and calcined Corrugated Iron Seed, 10 grams each of dried tangerine peel, galangal, Cyperus rotundus, Evodia rutaecarpa, and roasted licorice. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

3. Patients with stomach yin deficiency

Burning pain in the stomach, noisy and uncomfortable, poor appetite even though hungry, dry mouth and thirst, difficult bowel movements, red tongue with cracks, thin or peeled tongue coating, and a stringy, fine pulse.

The syndrome is liver-spleen disharmony and stomach yin deficiency. It is advisable to soothe the liver and strengthen the spleen, and nourish the yin and stomach.

Take 30 grams each of medicinal dandelion and Houttuynia cordata, 15 grams each of Northern Adenophora, Polygonatum odoratum, White Peony Root, and Trichosanthes kirilowii, 12 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus, pollen, Cassia tora, Dendrobium officinale, and Crataegus pinnatifida, 10 grams each of Toosendan fruit and vinegar-soaked Corydalis, and 6 grams of licorice. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

4. Patients with heat evil attacking the stomach

Burning pain in the stomach, noisy and hungry, bitter taste in the mouth and dry throat, vomiting sour and bitter water, constipation, red tongue with thin yellow coating, and a stringy and thin pulse.

The syndrome is characterized by evil heat invading the stomach and stagnation in the middle burner. It is advisable to dredge the middle burner, clear away heat and harmonize the stomach.

Take 30 grams each of medicinal dandelion and Patrinia salsa, 15 grams each of Hedyotis diffusa and white peony root, 10 grams each of Citrus aurantium, Citron, Forsythia suspensa, and Scutellaria baicalensis, 12 grams each of Cuttlebone and Iron Corrugated Seed, 6 grams of Coptis chinensis and Evodia rutaecarpa. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

5. Patients with liver depression affecting the stomach

There is dull pain in the epigastric region, distension and pain in the flanks, frequent belching, acid reflux, loss of appetite, red tongue with a thin white to slightly yellow coating, and a thready pulse.

The syndrome is liver depression and qi stagnation, and stomach disharmony and descending disorder. It is advisable to soothe the liver and regulate qi, strengthen the spleen and calm the stomach.

The medicinal ingredients include 15 grams each of bupleurum and white peony root, 12 grams each of atractylodes, poria, cyperus, and vinegar-soaked Corydalis, 10 grams each of angelica, toosendan, lindera strychni, fructus aurantii, citrus citron, sophora flavescens, and evodia rutaecarpa, and 6 grams each of coptis chinensis and licorice. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

6. Patients with stasis and stomach injury

There are stabbing or sharp pains in the stomach, which are resistant to pressure, and sometimes a burning and noisy feeling in the stomach, poor appetite, dark purple tongue with ecchymosis, thin yellow tongue coating, and sluggish pulse.

The syndrome is qi stagnation, blood stasis, and stagnation of heat that damages the stomach. It is good for promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, promoting qi and regulating the stomach.

The medicinal ingredients include 30 grams each of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Taraxacum mongolicum, 20 grams each of Hedyotis diffusa and Scutellaria barbata, 12 grams each of Cyperus rotundus and Corydalis yanhusuo, 10 grams each of Trillium, Curcuma zedoaria, Atractylodes macrocephala, Pollen Typhae, Toosendan fruit and Linderae scutellariae, and 6 grams of Amomum villosum. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

7. Patients with liver fire attacking the stomach

Due to long-term illness, the spleen and stomach are weak, the emotions are uncomfortable, and the depression turns into fire, resulting in fullness and dull pain in the stomach. The pain worsens after eating, and there is frequent heartburn and acid reflux, a bitter and sticky taste in the mouth, loose stools, a pale red tongue, a yellow and greasy tongue coating, and a thin and rapid pulse.

The syndrome is a mixture of deficiency and excess, and liver fire invading the stomach. The treatment is to soothe the liver and regulate qi, clear away heat and regulate the stomach.

The medicinal ingredients include 15 grams each of Codonopsis pilosula, Bupleurum chinense, and Poria cocos, 10 grams each of Pinellia ternata, Scutellaria baicalensis, Gardenia jasminoides, Costusroot, Citron, and malt, and 6 grams each of Coptis chinensis, Evodia rutaecarpa, and Licorice. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

8. Patients with dampness-suppressed spleen and stomach syndrome

Epigastric distension and fullness, poor appetite, bloating after eating a little, tasteless mouth, thirst but little drinking, rumbling bowel movements, loose stools, heaviness and fatigue, drowsiness and laziness, pale and fat tongue with greasy white coating, and a soft and fine pulse.

The syndrome is characterized by dampness blocking the spleen and stomach, and constipating the middle burner. It is good for strengthening the spleen, removing dampness, regulating qi and invigorating the stomach.

30 grams of medicinal coix seed, 12 grams each of atractylodes, poria, and chicken gizzard lining, 10 grams each of patchouli, perilla, white cardamom, magnolia bark, calamus, pinellia, tangerine peel, dried ginger, bitter orange, and forsythia. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.
