Stomach acid esophageal burning

Stomach acid esophageal burning

Gastric acid is an important substance in the human stomach, because when food flows into the stomach, it is mainly digested and absorbed through gastric acid. There are sphincters at both ends of the stomach, which are designed to prevent symptoms of acid reflux. However, if a person feels a burning sensation in the esophagus, one should consider whether the sphincter is not functioning properly and causing acid reflux. What are the specific symptoms of esophageal burning caused by acid reflux?

1. Symptoms of esophageal acid reflux

The main symptoms are heartburn, hiccups, and food regurgitation. In mild cases, the patient regurgitates bitter gastric juice or refluxes upward when bending over. In severe cases, the acid reflux may occur when the patient is sleeping soundly at night, and the acidic irritants may reflux into the throat in a jet-like manner, causing choking, wheezing, or a feeling of suffocation. The esophageal acid reflux reflex may also cause excessive salivation. Reflux is usually seen in more serious cases, and the food has a strong sour taste. The symptoms caused by reflux irritation to the esophagus mainly include heartburn, chest pain, and chest pain when swallowing. Heartburn is a common symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease, characterized by a burning sensation or discomfort behind the sternum, which often occurs 30 minutes after a meal, especially after a full meal. The condition worsens when the body is bent forward or when holding the breath. The stimulation of reflux can cause esophageal spasm and pain. When the refluxed acid stimulates the upper esophageal sphincter pressure to increase, there is a sense of winning. In patients with esophagitis, especially erosion of the esophageal membrane, there is often chest pain when swallowing. Some chest pain is similar to angina pectoris, and the pain radiates to the shoulders, back, upper limbs, neck or behind the ears.

2. What are the symptoms of esophageal burning sensation?

The main symptom of heartburn is usually a painful burning sensation in the chest that can also extend to the neck and arms. Heartburn is particularly severe at night. Another possible symptom is that stomach acid suddenly flows back into the throat. At the same time, people with heartburn often experience belching. Older people are particularly susceptible to hiatal hernia. Not every patient will experience heartburn symptoms. This disease is likely to cause esophageal inflammation and even ulcers, and esophageal inflammation can lead to esophageal narrowing. In rare cases, esophageal ulcers may bleed, resulting in anemia. Women often develop this disease during pregnancy.

3. What are the dietary precautions for reflux esophagitis?

Avoid eating before going to bed. Going to bed right after eating can easily cause reflux symptoms and aggravate esophageal reflux. Do not eat spicy food, as this type of food can aggravate the inflammatory response of the mucous membrane, so do not eat it. Avoid eating too cold, too hot, hard and rough food, because too hot food will irritate or burn the esophageal mucosa, too cold food will cause esophageal mucosal blood vessel contraction and ischemia, and hard and rough food will easily cause friction to the esophageal mucosa and aggravate the damage, so it is not suitable to eat. Avoid drinking coffee, chocolate, and alcohol, because these drinks can easily increase gastric acid secretion and increase the irritation of the esophageal mucosa by the regurgitated fluid, so they are not suitable for drinking. In addition, smoking can increase gastric acid secretion and aggravate the condition.
