How to make handmade essential oil soap

1. Preparation:

1) First of all, you must have 2 to 3 hours of completely undisturbed time, because alkali will be used, and for the safety of the process and the success of the results, you must be very focused. Therefore, it is recommended to have complete and continuous time. It is best to unplug the phone and place children and pets somewhere else to create an environment and time where no one can disturb you. Some soap making processes are faster, taking about an hour in total, but it is best to prepare enough time in advance to avoid disrupting plans for other things.

2) Clear out the work surface and place the necessary tools and materials, such as formula sheets, pens, and molds, aside for later use. To make it easier to deal with the aftermath, you can use newspapers to cover an area, which can protect the furniture and make it easier to put away.

3) Wear rubber gloves, a mask and an apron. It is safer to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants. It is best to wear goggles. If not, it is best to at least wear glasses. In short, you must do a good job of protection.

4) Apply a thin layer of oil to the surface of the model to facilitate demoulding after the soap is formed.

5) If there is a ready-made formula sheet, familiarize yourself with it first. If not, a suitable formula should be calculated and configured.

★Note: Do not place snacks, drinks or drinking water on the work surface to avoid the risk of accidental drinking or ingestion.

2. Measure water:

Take out the pre-prepared container, either a heat-resistant glass container or a stainless steel container will do, but be sure not to use an aluminum pot or the like, because alkali will be added later, so be careful to use a container that will not be corroded by alkali. In addition, high temperature will be generated during the alkali dissolution process, so it must be heat-resistant. Measure water according to the weight of the water in the recipe. It is best to use distilled water or purified water. Do not use tap water or mineral water because they contain too many impurities or minerals that will affect the results of the saponification reaction. You can use cold water or ice water, but never warm water or hot water.

Method: 1) Place the container on the electronic scale. 2) Reset the electronic scale to zero. 3) Pour water into the container until it reaches the desired weight.

3. Add solid sodium hydroxide to the measured water:

Measure the solid sodium hydroxide by weight according to the recipe. The solid sodium hydroxide must be measured correctly because if it is slightly off, the finished soap will taste subtly different. Although you don't have to be so nervous when preparing the sodium hydroxide solution, it is best to handle the sodium hydroxide as quickly as possible. Because it easily absorbs moisture and starts to become sticky, it is difficult to handle, so after adding the alkali, it should be stirred immediately with a tool that is not corroded by the alkali, such as a glass rod, stainless steel rod, or spoon.
