What is the correct way to use caulk?

Anyone who has done home decoration must have come into contact with caulking. For example, when laying tiles, gaps are easily created between the tiles. If these gaps are not filled, it will not only affect the appearance, but also the usage. Such tiles will easily fall off. Therefore, when laying tiles, caulking is an indispensable product that can solve the problem of larger gaps. So how to use caulking correctly?

First, how to use caulking agent

The caulk is applied to the gap by squeezing. Many caulk products are designed to be easy to squeeze and apply, without the need for specific tools. If it is not this style, then you will need to use a tool that is easy to squeeze and apply.

The application time of caulking agent is two days after the tiles are laid. Some will wait until the tiles are completely dry before applying, which is 7 days later. The temperature must be above zero degrees Celsius during construction.

During construction, clean the tile surface and joints first. You can wipe them with a damp cloth, but do not allow water to accumulate in the tiles and gaps. Then squeeze the caulking agent evenly on the gap. After one gap is coated, use a scraper to smooth it. There will be some sticky parts on both sides of the gap, just wipe them off with a dry towel before they are completely dry.

After the construction is completed, it must be maintained for 72 hours and not exposed to sunlight, otherwise it will crack due to drying too quickly. So cover the surface with kraft paper. Outdoor joints can also be sprayed with water to keep them moisturized.

Second, the correct use of tile grout:

1. First, pour water into a clean container, slowly add the tile grout, stir evenly until it becomes a paste without any raw powder lumps, wait for 3 to 5 minutes and then stir again.

2. Squeeze the mixed tile grout into the reserved gap along the diagonal direction of the brick and stone, leaving no gaps to prevent it from being affected by the slurry embedded in the gap.

3. Wait for 10-15 minutes or until the surface is dry, then wipe the surface with a sponge, slightly damp cotton cloth or towel in a circular motion, and then press the tile grout further to make the grout denser and the surface smoother.

4. Finally, wait for the tile grout to dry and then wipe the tile surface with a sponge or clean sponge cloth to remove the remaining grout.

Third, precautions for using tile grout:

1. Be careful not to use acidic cleaners to clean the caulked brick surface.

2. Tile grouting agent should not be applied under rain. Avoid rain erosion within 12 hours after construction is completed. Pay special attention to rainy weather.

3. Do not mix the dried glue with water for secondary use.

4. When constructing a large area, remember to leave expansion joints and perform the first maintenance 24 hours after construction and the second maintenance 48 hours later.

5. For unglazed tiles, antique tiles and tiles with porous surfaces, it is recommended to use special grouting tools to avoid contamination of the tiles.

6. After caulking, the remaining caulking agent should be cleaned up in time, because if the caulking agent stays for too long, it will be difficult to remove and affect the appearance.
