Can enteritis cause salmonella?

Enteritis is a common disease at present. It is caused by digestive tract infection due to not paying attention to diet, frequent contact with pets, and not washing hands thoroughly. These will invisibly cause the disease to enter the body through the mouth, and slowly the patient will suffer from enteritis. Most patients with enteritis have Salmonella, which will slowly spread and then infect the entire abdominal cavity, so it is necessary to take certain preventive measures and treatments to avoid worsening of the disease.

Precautions

First, do not drink untreated water (such as pond, stream, lake, polluted sea water, etc.), and do not drink unpasteurized milk (i.e. raw milk);

Second, do not eat raw meat or uncooked meat;

Third, wash your hands carefully after defecation, changing diapers, and touching pets, especially before preparing food or eating;

Fourth, raw poultry, beef, and pork should all be considered as potentially contaminated foods. When conditions permit, fresh meat should be placed in clean plastic bags to prevent blood from seeping out and contaminating other foods. After handling raw meat, do not lick your fingers, touch other food, or smoke without washing your hands first;

Fifth, be sure to wash the cutting board carefully after each contact with food to avoid contamination of other foods;

Sixth, especially when using a microwave oven to cook meat, the temperature inside and outside of the meat must be consistent (usually above 165 degrees Fahrenheit). A thermometer can be used to check the temperature of the food in the oven. The treatment of Salmonella infection includes two aspects: etiological treatment and symptomatic treatment. Etiological treatment is the use of antibiotics to control the reproduction of bacteria and eliminate them. Many Salmonella strains have become resistant to antibiotics, especially Salmonella typhimurium. The efficacy of antibiotics is not ideal, which brings great difficulties to treatment. Antibiotics with good effects and few side effects should be selected.

For young children or those with severe illness, antibiotics should be given intravenously and two antibiotics should be used at the same time. The duration of medication should depend on the condition, and the total course of treatment should not be shorter than 2 weeks. There is also a treatment method that requires the antibiotic dosage to be reduced and then continued for at least one week after the body temperature returns to normal for three days. It must be noted that the dosage of antibiotics should not be too large at the beginning, especially antibiotics that kill bacteria. If a large number of bacteria die in a short period of time, it may lead to a worsening of the disease. The reason is that Salmonella can produce endotoxins, which exist in the bacteria. When the bacteria are killed and disintegrated, endotoxins are released, which can increase the endotoxin in the blood and aggravate toxemia.

Symptomatic treatment, which is nursing work. Pay attention to the dynamic changes in body temperature. You must use a thermometer. Do not judge by feeling the temperature and use antipyretics indiscriminately. Generally, antipyretics should be used when the temperature is above 39 degrees in infants and young children and above 38.5 degrees in older children. If the fever is not high, you can drink warm water, which can also induce sweating and reduce the temperature. When the temperature is above 40 degrees, you can wipe your body with alcohol. When there is no alcohol, you can use white wine instead. Use equal amounts of white wine and warm water, soak a small cloth in it, and rub the neck, armpits, groin, elbows, chest, and soles of the feet. This can dilate the blood vessels and dissipate heat, with an immediate effect.

The diet should be mainly liquid or semi-liquid food, with no residue, little fiber, non-greasy and easily digestible food, which can prevent intestinal bleeding and intestinal perforation. A large amount of water can be lost during high fever, sweating, vomiting, and diarrhea, so the baby should be fed with small amounts of water multiple times. If there are signs of dehydration, severe vomiting, and difficulty in drinking water orally, intravenous fluids should be given. If urine output decreases, which indicates that the body is dehydrated, water should be replenished. You should also closely observe changes in the disease, whether it improves or worsens, and whether there are any symptoms of complications. Timely detection will allow for early treatment. Pay attention to oral and skin hygiene to prevent infection by other bacteria.
