Low blood pressure is the fatal culprit of stroke! Teach you how to identify it

Hypotension, in contrast to hypertension, refers to a state in which the systemic arterial pressure is lower than normal. Hypotension can occur at any age and tends to occur at a younger age.

Low blood pressure generally does not have any obvious diseases. Many people with low blood pressure cannot feel it unless they have a physical examination. However, the harm of low blood pressure is no less than that of high blood pressure. It is not as sudden and rapid as high blood pressure, but it is also the fatal culprit of stroke, and can also cause serious consequences such as dementia and myocardial ischemia! Medical surveys show that among the elderly, 2/5 of stroke patients and 1/4 of myocardial infarction patients are caused by hypotension.

How do we recognize hypotension? What should you do if you have low blood pressure? I believe today’s sharing can give you the answer!

How to recognize low blood pressure?

What is hypotension? In medicine, the condition in which blood pressure is lower than systolic blood pressure (SBP) 90 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) 60 mmHg on three different days is generally referred to as hypotension.

Wu Xiaohe, chief physician of the Department of Cardiology at Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital, pointed out that "the most common symptoms of low blood pressure are dizziness, fatigue, and lack of energy. In severe cases, chest tightness, angina pectoris, and even fainting and unconsciousness may occur. If the blood pressure is lower than 90/60 mmHg and the above symptoms occur, then it can be diagnosed as low blood pressure."

Director Wu introduced that hypotension can be divided into two categories: physiological hypotension and pathological hypotension.

Physiological hypotension means that although the blood pressure has reached the standard of low blood pressure, there are no subjective symptoms and it does not affect life expectancy. This type of hypotension is generally more common in centenarians and women. Director Wu gave an example. There is an old lady in her 90s in Donghu District, Nanchang City. Her blood pressure is only 80/50 mmHg, but her life is not affected at all. Compared with ordinary people, this kind of blood pressure is clinically considered shock blood pressure and requires emergency treatment.

Pathological hypotension is divided into primary hypotension and secondary hypotension. Primary hypotension refers to hypotension for which no clear cause can be found. Secondary hypotension is often caused by diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding or diarrhea.

Mild symptoms of low blood pressure often include dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, fatigue, pale complexion, indigestion, motion sickness, etc. Severe symptoms may include orthostatic vertigo (sudden fainting can easily cause fractures and other injuries), cold limbs, palpitations, slurred speech, difficulty breathing, ataxia, slurred pronunciation, and even fainting, convulsions, and the need to stay in bed for a long time, affecting normal life.

In addition, patients with low blood pressure are generally in a low mood and are prone to depression. In severe cases, they may experience hearing loss and blurred vision. Studies have found that low blood pressure can also greatly increase the incidence of senile dementia.

If you find yourself having some of the above symptoms, you should go to the hospital for a physical examination as soon as possible and follow the doctor's advice for timely treatment.
