Gallstones refer to a disease caused by stones occurring in the gallbladder and are a common disease. The incidence rate gradually increases with age, and is significantly higher in women than in men. With the improvement of living standards, changes in eating habits and improvements in sanitary conditions, cholelithiasis in my country has gradually changed from being mainly pigment stones in the bile duct to being mainly cholesterol stones in the gallbladder.

1. In the early stages of gallstones, about 60% of patients usually have no obvious clinical symptoms and are discovered during physical examination or other upper abdominal surgeries.

2. Some single or multiple gallstones exist freely in the gallbladder, are not easily incarcerated, and rarely cause symptoms. They are called asymptomatic gallstones.

3. Small stones in the gallbladder may become lodged in the neck of the gallbladder, causing clinical symptoms. Especially when the gallbladder contracts after eating greasy food, or when the body position changes during sleep, the symptoms may be aggravated.

4. When gallstones are embedded in the neck of the gallbladder, it causes acute obstruction, leading to increased pressure in the gallbladder. The bile cannot be discharged through the gallbladder neck and the cystic duct, thus causing clinical symptoms, usually manifested as biliary colic.
