Is goiter hereditary?

Is goiter hereditary?

Goiter is not actually a genetic disease. It is more often caused by iodine deficiency. These symptoms have many similarities with hyperthyroidism, but hyperthyroidism is an excessive secretion of thyroid hormones, an autoimmune endocrine disease, so of course they are different.

1. Goiter is not a genetic disease . It is caused by iodine deficiency. Now, due to the widespread consumption of iodized salt, goiter is rare.

2. Hyperthyroidism has similar symptoms . Hyperthyroidism is an autoimmune endocrine disease caused by excessive secretion of thyroid hormone. It is caused by mental stress and external stimulation under the premise of genetic genes, so it is more common in a highly competitive and stressful society.

There are six main causes of this disease:

(1) Iodine deficiency or excess in the water and soil in epidemic areas.

(2) Increased iodine requirement (due to growth and development, breastfeeding, cold, infection, poisoning, emotions, etc.).

(3) Goitrogens (cassava, radish, cabbage, thiouracil, thiocyanate, sodium para-aminosalicylate, phenylbutazone, potassium perchlorate, cobalt, and lithium salts).

(4) Drinking deep well water (containing excessive sulfur hydrocarbons, calcium and fluoride), the water source is contaminated by bacteria.

(5) Familial congenital thyroid hormone synthase deficiency.

(6) Artificial radioactive nuclides (nuclear fission products) - iodine-131 exceeds the standard in the air.

The condition mentioned in Article 5 may be hereditary. You can go to the hospital for a pathological examination to see if it is a hereditary condition.
