This is what the care for respiratory failure is

Respiratory failure care is very important for patients with respiratory failure, but most family members of patients with respiratory failure do not fully understand how to provide care. In fact, the care of respiratory failure is roughly divided into two aspects: one is symptom care and the other is general care. The nursing methods for these two aspects are different, and the patient's family members must pay attention to this.

【Symptom care】

1. Nursing for cough and coughing diseases

(1) Critically ill patients should be turned over and their backs patted regularly, and sputum should be suctioned if they are unable to cough up sputum.

(2) If an artificial airway is established, humidification should be strengthened, medication should be dripped into the airway as prescribed by the doctor, and infection should be prevented. Suction sputum promptly after dripping the medicine.

2. Nursing for sleep disorders: Attention should be paid to the patient’s safety if the patient is irritable, restless, or has sleep disorder.

Nursing of pulmonary encephalopathy

(1) Observe vital signs: changes in consciousness, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, skin mucosa, conjunctiva, and urine volume.

(2) Keep your skin and oral cavity clean.

(3) Critically ill patients should adopt a semi-recumbent position. Turn over and pat the back regularly to help expel phlegm. Prepare suction equipment and rescue items.

(4) Establish an artificial airway for critically ill patients: follow routine artificial airway care procedures.

【General care】

1. Provide a quiet, clean and comfortable environment.

2. During an acute attack, nursing staff should remain calm and reduce the patient's anxiety. Patients in remission perform breathing exercises and activities. Assist them to adapt to life and, based on their physical condition, to take care of themselves and engage in normal social activities.

3. Provide a high-protein, high-calorie, multi-vitamin, easily digestible diet. Eat small, frequent meals.

4. Closely observe the degree of respiratory failure, blood pressure, pulse, urine volume, and consciousness.

5. Provide reasonable oxygen therapy as prescribed by the doctor.

6. Strictly limit visiting to prevent cross infection.

【Observation of the condition】

1. The degree and type of respiratory failure, as well as consciousness, blood pressure, respiration, pulse, urine volume, etc.

2. The patient’s mental state.

【Health Education】

1. Instruct patients to breathe with pursed lips to improve ventilation.

2. Prevent respiratory infections and change clothes according to the season.
